The Flying Tiger's shark mouthed P-40 is one of the most iconic aircraft of World War 2. Watch the film used to train P-40 pilots, produced by P-40 manufacturer Curtiss Wright, in rare World War 2 color in this new HD restoration. Claire Chenault's Flying Tiger's deadly weapon in China, the P-40 was the Army Air Corp's main front line fighter at the outbreak of the War. Not as agile as a Japanese Zero, the P-40 made up for that with speed, especially in a dive, and firepower. This rugged plane served the Allies around the world , from the deserts of North Africa to the jungles of SE Asia.
The aircraft featured in this film is a P-40F, which were powered by Packard built Merlins for better high altitude performance. Other P-40 versions were powered by Allison engines.P-40s supplied to Commonwealth countries were known as 'Kittyhawks."

It's surprising (to me) that they used Celsius instead of Fahrenheit at this time in American aircraft.

G'day, The Airframes had perhaps been built to fill French, Dutch, or Belgian Contracts. The RAF recieved lots of Curtis P-40s which not only featured instruments reading in Napoleonic Revolutionary Metric...; but also they were equipped with French Throttle "Controls" which operate BACKWARDS...., pull the Handle out for Full Power and push it in, to achieve Idle. Frog-Eating apparently significantly peturbs, and perverts, one's Worldview (?) ! Such is life, Have a good one... Stay safe. ;-p Ciao !

Having a Rolls Royce engine in this model probably didn’t hurt?

@@6thmichcav262 Celsius was also used on the Allison powered Models. The Instrumentation remained essentially the same, in order not to confuse the Allied Pilots. The Merlin P-40s also use inches of Mercury instead of lb/sq.ft.

At the end of the film, the instructor made a comment about the planes and pilots protecting democracy and the flag. Interesting that little tidbit was edit out in this version...
