This is a good example but my form is an edit form and does retrieve data from the SharePoint list. Can you provide any guidance if there's value coming back from SharePoint list how can the formula be designed so it reflects updated numbers' formatting in real time?

Create a component that has one output property and that property has one parameter. Use that same code he used in this video without the set function. In the component output property, type this Text( Value(ParameterName), "[$-en-US]#,###" ) Then, use Insert to add the component to the screen where you are going to use the function and pass the parameter every time you call it.
