Hey what’s up everybody! It’s jimmy tran and today i’m going to teach you how to frontside bigspin!
If you can fs pop shove it like this and do a fs 180 then i’m pretty sure you can land a fs bigspin.
In this video, i’m going to tell you the 2 fundamental keys to help you land fs bigpspins easier!
I just re-learned this trick a few weeks ago after being away from the board for a very long time so all this information is still very fresh in my mind.
So let’s get started!
To do this trick, you really only need to know how to fs pop shove it and fs 180, but i suggest you know how to fakie fs bigspin too. If you can’t then that’s okay.
This is my foot position for a fs bigspin.
My backfoot is halfway off the tail and it’s pointy facing south. Pretty much in a regular fs pop shove it scooping position.
My front foot is just 2 inches below the front bolts to help get a better pop and scoop.
Make sure your pinky toe is lined up with the edge of the skateboard as shown here.
The first key to landing a fs bigspin is that you need to swing your shoulders bs and then fully fs to get the full rotation.
Take a close look at my leading shoulder and notice how i’m swinging it backside and then swinging it frontside.
That’s what you want to do in order to get the full rotation on flatground.
The motion is pretty much like this. You swing your leading shoulder backside and then swing it fully frontside 180 to the back.
And keep in mind that you don’t turn your head backside. Only your shoulders are swinging backside.
The last fundamental keys to fs bigspins is you want to lift your front foot up so it doesn’t flip the board and lean forward at the 90 degree point of the fs 180 so that you can land evenly back on the board and not slip out.
Now that you know the 2 most important tips to landing frontside bigspins, it’s now time to put it all together with the rest of the little details.
Start by riding at a comfortable speed and set up for a fs bigspin.
Squat down for power and start winding your leading shoulder backside
Then start turning your shoulders fully fs 180 all the way to the back.
Begin the motions of lifting your front leg straight up and at the same time, get ready to pop and scoop the board horizontally with your back foot.
When you feel your leading shoulder at 90 degrees, or the halfway point,
Lift your front legs straight up and at the same time pop the board and scoop horizontally towards the direction of where the front nose of where your skateboard used to be before you turned fs 180.
You want to pop and scoop harder than you normally would for regular fs pop shove its.
Almost like you’re trying to pop shove it up a curb.
As this is all happening, you want to lean forward just like a fs 180 towards the 90 degree direction so you land balanced & not heavy on the nose or tail.
You want to lean forward right at this moment where you’ve scooped the board and it’s rotating & your front foot is lifted up.
Keep turning fs 180 with your leading shoulder & your front foot should catch the board as it’s rotating with you.
Land & ride away clean!
It’s going to be kind of scary leaning forward at the half way point right when you lift your front foot up and start popping and scooping the board, but trust me. That’s the part where most people struggle with and if you take the leap of faith and lean forward then you got this fs bigspin!
One of the most common issues to fs bigspins is under rotating.
And that’s because you’re not swinging your shoulders enough to get the full spin.
Keep turning your leading shoulder frontside to complete the 180 after you’ve popped and scooped the board and you should be able to get the full rotation.
The last one is landing heavy on the tail and slipping out.
This comes back to what i was talking about earlier about leaning forward at the half way point so that you don’t land heavy on the tail and slip out.
You want to lean forward right at this moment where you’ve popped and scooped the board and it’s already rotating and you’ve lifted your front foot up.
Just like a fs 180, there is some leaning forward to land balanced and fs bigspins are the same thing.
So do that and you should see better results!
If you are going to take away anything from this video, it’s that you have to wind up your shoulders to get the full fs 180 spin.
Lift your front foot up so it doesn’t flip the board and lean forward at the 90 degree or halfway point so you don’t land heavy on the tail and slip out.
Keep turning your leading shoulder fs 180 after you pop, scoop, lift your leg up and leaned forward at the half way pointy.
And pop and scoop harder than you would for regular fs pop shove its.
I hope this video helped you out with fs bigspins, let me know if you landed one in the comment box below!
After fs bigspins, you can try fs 360 pop shove its next or fs 180 heelflips. If you want to learn these then see one of these 2 videos here to learn more. Thanks for watching!
