Normal people are so very conditioned not to throw the first punch that this will be a big challenge to them. But the way society in the UK is going down the pan, people need to be more pro-active.

Most common sense thing i have ever seen on this subject.. Look at it like this; If someone approaches you like that, they ARE going to attack you. 30 years ago you could probably reason with them, society has changed now, any trying to defuse things will be taken as a sign of weakness and make it worse [for you] As said, the LAST thing they expect is for you to go on the attack.

I worked in law enforcement for about ten years, and this is accurate. However I learned a long time ago that throwing closed fist punches is not a great idea, it’ll work, but it will cause problems for the rest of your day, week or even month. Something that I’ve done several times is throw a low kick at the about to be forward leg/knee. It doesn’t have to be hard but it’s enough to cause them to have balance issues, you are then close enough for grappling.

@TheGentlemanRougeScholar
@TheGentlemanRougeScholar Күн бұрын
@@mr.anti.conservatives-u6f I think the point of what I said was missed. If you are being attacked by someone, then you can interrupt them by kicking the leg that is about to be their lead leg as they step forward. I said that I was law enforcement to give this some context, I’ve had several interactions with people who are just going nuts and attacking every person they see. This was my go to technique for someone who wasn’t holding a weapon.

And when you're in court, anyone who saw what happened will say you threw the first punch and started the fight. You get to wear the pretty orange jumpsuit. Better to put all that training you did by sidestepping and counter punching. It sucks to be a martial artist because the law is always against you but it's what we have to put up with and we get to survive... hopefully.

Brilliant advice, and I can only reiterate what everyone else has said, distance and timing is key. Also attacking first on an aggressor is great advice. it's legal and could stop an unpleasant situation. In regards to the age-old running away thing. I have arthritis in my knees, so I ain't running anywhere, I can limp away, but that won't work if someone intends to do me harm and is serious.

Put your hands up in a Self Defensive frame. This way, you can, if anyone is filming you with their cell phone, you can say that you didn't want to fight. Nowadays cameras are EVERYWHERE, even if you think they're not. And if you land in court, taking the first punch may still land you in jail. If the other guy has a good lawyer, his lawyer will be able to show that you used EXCESSIVE VIOLENCE even if it was supposedly defending yourself. Cops really aren't great at sorting out who the "bad guy" is, SO USE YOUR HEAD - BEFORE YOU USE YOUR FISTS!

@Sankara561
@Sankara561 Күн бұрын
@kaoskronostyche9939 nothing is effective against multiple determined attackers! Any combat sport with a large component of live sparring makes someone fitter and tougher but the hours I spend training each week would be a very poor use of time if my aim was to marginally improve my chances in a hopeless and unlikely situation.

I think this is not an option if you are untrained, as the first strike punch won´t knock the opponent out and he will return with even more violence. So this wouldn´t be over after the first hit. And if you have little children with you, there must be a different solution, which would at least incapacitate the opponent, so that you and your children would be able to excape.

@user-dh5bnafe4b Күн бұрын
That IS wrong. Not having any alternative is leaving yourself in the position of being the victim. Not a great idea because if you think an aggressor is going to stop after a first strike then you're deluding yourself. The days of "never hit a man when he's down" are long gone.

You make a good point. So my advice is if a person is untrained and there is a risk they will end up in this situation (especially if they have kids), they should learn how to box. Some may disagree and say boxing isn’t the best fighting style for self defence. But I believe it is.

Good info. guys . A solid cane is also a good tool for keeping an aggressor at bay & it is most always in hand if your not as agile as a younger person is. Whether a person is in an empty handed situation or they have a n equalizer at hand, "awareness " ( just as you're advising ) is a persons first defense, especially while pumping gas, everyone knows you just want to get in & out & most folks are pre- occupied with the task as it's just an annoyance & where low life's like to hang out.

In the initial part of the video I was thinking a Push Kick while the attacker's arms are still wrapped up in the jacket as he's taking it off. I'd stop after the first kick for legal considerations, to wait and see if he renews his attack. Otherwise, in the eyes of the law you've progressed from victim to assailant.

Great advice! What about an attack where the guy is approaching you and then he gets low and starts running at you for a tackle. I had a guy do that to me at a party, I thought he was coming at me for a punch like in this video so I was gearing up for my highly practiced Moo Duk Kwan chest busting front kick when he got low and started running at me. Since my leg was up when he hit I got lucky in the way we tangled and landed because it wasn’t what he expected either. That attack is always in my mind since I don’t know how to handle it, and I’ve seen it happen in fights between other people, I’ve just never went back to train for it since I’m older and don’t really live that life where fights are occasional anymore. But you never know what can happen.

Basically in other words you outsmart your attacker lol. Unfortunately I tend to wait until I'm struck or grabbed 1st before I hit back. Sounds stupid I know but I was also taught you can't fear the strike either. Taking the hit of your opponent can also phyc them out of continuing because you've just taken 1 of their best attempts! Now it's my turn to reciprocate so I just block and deflect their strikes until I get my chance! I always like to be the element of surprise and be elusive in the fight. Making my opponent think 1 thing and I'm doing the opposite. Like pretending to submit to him when in actual real fact I'm setting them up! Using their weight against them also works as long as you keep their momentum rolling. Distance and timing is also crucial. Remember people it's the size of the Dog in the fight! It's the size of the heart in the Dog who will win the fight! Unless there's weapons involved then it becomes a real challenge lol.

Police use the Tueller Rule-a perpetrator within 21 feet can attack an officer before they can draw and fire. So 21 feet (although controversial) is the minimum reaction gap to prepare for the attack ~ from a police perspective. So disrupting the bad guy’s movie ( great analysis) in this distance makes great sense, and definitely within “ land mine” distance. Nice video 👍 *edit: also can’t give them one shot then step back to admire your work. Gotta go all in if you’re going in

Your tactic to hit one step before the perp expects it would be fine as long as you are 100% certain they are going to strike you. However, legally speaking that will mean that you are the attacker which means, at least in most US states that you will be going to jail. And what if the perp is faking that they are tough and faking that they are going to strike you and you take the tactic of hitting them first? Again, you will be considered the attacker and you will be arrested.

In the state of Nevada gun carrying is legal, it stops all kinds of fights. I am now 70 years old when I was 30 or 31 a man was on top of a woman choking her, she was very close to dying. I pulled over got out of the car, and showed him my Beretta 380, game over, (I wanted so bad to say "feel lucky punk" Dirty Harry 😊 I still own the Beretta. The sad thing was people were watching from places, across the street, cars had slowed down to watch, no one was helping. There is a name for that but I can't think of it at the moment. When everyone is waiting for everyone else to do something. Lastly just two months ago, two women were walking in front of me, one suddenly collapsed, her friend was trying to hold her up, while asking for help. This happened near the court house plenty of people around, my 70 year old butt was the only one who came to her aid. Everyone else was too busy on the phone pretending not to notice. Somebody must have called emergency, because an ambulance suddenly appeared, don't misunderstanding me I enjoy the videos, can't never be prepared enough.

Bystander effect - people in familiar situations follow the lead that other people set so until someone intervenes, nobody does. Not to be confused with the fallacious Kitty Genovese effect which was constructed for political reasons, in fact many witnesses tried to intervene but none were close enough.

@Sankara561 I love when my someone gives me an educated response thank you. Just to add to the story the woman was within a minute or so from death, she had stopped fighting, she laid there unresponsive. The guy took off running, I am not a police officer nor am I a large man at 5'8" tall I couldn't chance wrestling with him to hold him, and get my gun taken away in the struggle. Remember this is a time before cell phones, the woman was struggling to breath sounded like she was trying to clear her throat, but she was alive. To this day I do not know what happened.

Someone is walking towards you shouting that they're gonna smash your face in.... And you're thinking about the law?👀... But for what it's worth... the law permits you to do exactly that should you have an "honestly held belief" that you are about to be attacked. Which is exactly what you would have.
@Sankara561
@Sankara561 Күн бұрын
Legal self defence applies when you have a reasonable belief that you are about to be assaulted (eg someone approaching aggressively saying that he is about to assault you) and you respond proportionally (eg you hit him first). You would not even be charged.
@powerballminep67

Not necessarily. Bad people who start fights, tend to become the victim once police arrive. If they are injured and you are not, and the bad guy is substantiating his allegation, you are likely to be arrested for an assault. That is if there are not independent witnesses who are willing to come forward, and support your version of the events. Officers used to be able to use their own discretion; in fact they were encouraged to. Not any more.

If you do strike first, what's you defence in court going to be? 'I thought he was going to hit me', is barely self defence. You could be wrong. If the opponent swings and misses AND there's good evidence of the attempt, then maybe responding with a first contact strike might be ok.

In the UK these days, defending one's self will probably result in the prosecution and conviction of the defender. This goes double for the person defending against one of the violent immigrant hordes taking over your country. The UK is lost.

Whilst this seems like a good idea the ‘preemptive strike’ is a very contentious issue. Frankly this option is not going to do you any favours with witnesses, or the law. In addition, as soon as you pick up a weapon you are making the situation even more contentious with you the defender being more likely to suffer the consequences. Nothing is ever Black & White, and I’m all for ‘getting rid’ of the aggressor but this clip is for an absolute dire situation …and one that can only be attempted by a seasoned, skillfull M. artist/combative practitioner. Anyone spouting the “I’d rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6” is full of bull and living in fantasy land 😬

An interesting video, but it’s worth considering where you stand legally. Let’s say you are “lucky” and the aggressor goes down. You started it! You might be looking at a conviction for assault or gbh, and prison time? Maybe deescalation is the best option. It’s unlikely that the aggressor will just have sparked off, there will probably have been a “build up”. If you try and calm things from the beginning, apologize (even if you don’t feel you’ve anything to apologize for) it’s unlikely to escalate. As for stabbing someone with a pen or pencil, hello? Assault with a deadly weapon?
