Some stuff here like the vertical Age Uke is really important to teach and sometimes I underestimate just how lucky the viewers are with this level of expertise being shown here. Thank you so much (Y)

Been looking for hours for a video that shows the hip rotation (which I'm struggling with). So glad I finally found one that shows it slowly as well.

Solid vid. I've been training in Shito Ryu for... a while and in 2020 started picking up some Shotokan. This is doing well to make sure I don't accidentally mix the two. Thanks!

Thank you for the detailed explanation for soto uke. I have been wondering how not to hurt my wrist bone while blocking. Never realised that there is this little inside sweep (U-turn) movement.

Great video! Never realised before you can actually attack with a block lol. It was what my karate school lacked - the application, the bunkai. Although I could do some kata not bad, I couldn't say that I got any benefits for real fighting, despite physical strength from the trainings.

5:43 how I was taught in Shotokan is that in Age Uge starting position the other hand is kind of straight forward sword hand acting as a general protectant. In this version it looks like face/chest/solar plexus area are easily available to the attacker. In out training there is always something between you and the opponent usually a hand working as a general protectand or distractor and when the block comes you take it to hikite and so on.
@kostaskakaris4092 Жыл бұрын
Αll blocks must protect your center line first (vulnerable acu points ) as well as have an arm breaking technique hidden in them (your opponents attacking hand ) hence the extended hand and exchange in front of you. As said you also need to turn your wrist last minute gaining the safe distance /re direction of the coming force from this action , ( surprisingly it is only 3 cm ie. 1 ounce of power to divert 10,000 kilos as the Chinese say )

Thanks for pointing out wrist turn, at the end. Not progressively during. It is really important, the small circle, it adds power and invokes more pain on adversary, instead of yourself.

Very good. You did not mention the shorin ryu style?
@mariusgustavus65226 жыл бұрын
Abdul Kalam Shotokan originated from Shorin-Ryu In fact "Shoto" (which is Funakoshis Artist name) actally did Shorin-Ryu So your line still is there ;)
@vaakalam6 жыл бұрын
Thank you friend. I am just a novice in the field.
@Veepee925 жыл бұрын
@@mariusgustavus6522 That's not quite correct. Shorin-ryu as a name of a style properly starts with Choshin Chibana, who had the same teacher as Funakoshi: Anko Itosu. The correct term to describe Itosu's karate including both Chibana and Funakoshi would be "Shuri-te". These days Shotokan is considered to be modern, Japanese karate while Shorin-ryu is traditional Okinawan karate.
@mariusgustavus65225 жыл бұрын
@@Veepee92 True however i read somewhere that Funakoshi's (and Itosus) style was already called shorin ryu as well probably due to shuri beeing an okinawan name which the japanese society at the time would not have accepted. According to that Version the term "Shorin Ryu" was first used for the Todi in the okinawan School system.
