Thank you for this video! While I have yet to find a solution to my underlying problem (trying to georeference a CAD file), this allowed me to easily georeference from a PDF drawing and get polygons from there.

Glad it helped! Thanks for leaving a nice comment.

pro tip: occasionally I’ve had some huge geotifs hang on me while running the georeference in QGIS. So just add your points and then use the copy GDAL script button and run it in terminal. Blazes through it every time.

Awesome idea! Thanks Ryan. 😎

Thanks for the tutorial. I watched a couple others before finding this one and this is the one that made it all click for me. I did have some black bars around my image but I found that if you change the output mode to 'Rendered image' it goes away, so all's well.

Wonderful video, got me there so quick and easily! One question -- is there a similar approach for georeferencing a point cloud? I have a point cloud (Total Station data) that is in a local coordinate system (meaning, the points are meters N & E of an arbitrary 0N 0E datum). I know the geoposition of 6 of those (took them with my Trimble Catalyst) so can I dump the "control" points into a project and then somehow point out to QGIS that control point 1 is this corresponding point in the local coordinates cloud, and so on for all the control points, then use a tool to georeference all of the remaining local points? I guess I'd somehow have to dump the local point cloud into the project in order to do that. I imagine it can be done just have no idea how. Thanks!

Whoa! Sounds very complex. Unfortunately I'm not sure how to get that done.

Which version of QGIS were you using
@feltmapsАй бұрын
I was definitely using the latest version when this was released. Not entirely sure what that was. Does the UI look the same for you?
@celinavionnet779829 күн бұрын
@@feltmaps I was wondering the same. Version 3.16.15 does not have the georeferencer feature. It's not even in the toolbox. I'll update to the latest version

As you add gcp points you will see red error connectors if there is distortion issues. I use that all the times

Hi Boone, thanks for your Tutorials, I work fo TV and am using Felt and Unreal to make maps... If I want to eliminate the weird black border, how do I do this. I basically want to impliment my geo referenced texture in Qgis as a layer for Felt so I can make it sit underneath all my other layer data as a BG layer. If you drop the texture in to felt it brings it in as an element and sits/block the layer data. how do I achive this
@feltmaps6 ай бұрын
Hello! What is the file format of the texture you're importing into Felt? Sounds like it needs to be a geotiff.

I have a serious problem with georeferencing in qgis version 3.38.1. I downloaded the orthophotomap from Google Earth. I made 4 control points, set the nearest neighbor and the transformation type to linear and after creating and assigning the appropriate map projection, the orthophotomap is in the wrong place. I set the mapping wgs (4326) - it was in the wrong place. I also tried mapping compatible with Polish 2180 Pl-1992. Does anyone have any suggestions why after georeferencing the photo I am not where it should be?

Sorry! No idea.

Don't use linear transformation unless you already know what projection it's in (and in that case, you will want to set your Project CRS to that projection). Instead try Helmert or one of the polynomial algorithms. For historical maps with unknown projection, I usually use thin plate spline (aka rubber sheeting). That's what I would have used for the example in this video.

I know you don't talk about manually typing in coordinates in the video, but I was just wondering if you could help me with this. Whenever I try to plot points from latitude/longitude the map always puts it at Null Island, and I saw other videos doing it so I know that the way I typed in the coordinates wasn't the problem. If you could help with this would be greatly appreciated
