I'd suggest Anki to everyone, best way to learn something once, and remember/understand it deeper through repetition.

I used to think I was too old and not smart enough to become a developer. At 31, I'm a dev with just over 2 years of experience now.

ven 25-year-olds can't find jobs these days. Despite knowing multiple programming languages and practicing for interview questions, people still can't get hired; they are being rejected outright. I know people who have been applying for jobs for a year, even a year and a half. People are even being laid off. Understand this, finding a job has become very difficult, extremely difficult. For those over forty, it's even harder. The job market has changed a lot, friends. Really, unless you have connections, getting a job is incredibly, incredibly difficult.

best you are ever going to be vs best you are ever going to do are different things. your level of effort is a huge means of determination. it isn't always about WHAT you can do, but what you are willing to do.

Everyone in this world who has experienced success has always had people or things fighting against them. Use that as fuel to keep moving forward. It doesn’t matter how old you are if you have a strong desire to do something go for it. Believing in yourself and keep moving forward to Victory When you are older, you see the world differently have a better appreciation, and you strive for a deeper learning experience. You also have other experiences to offer that you can bring to the table to teach others.

This is hopeful. There is so much bias against people that break into tech later in life.

I’m 49, about to get my React frontend portfolio up and getting ready to really dive in. If you feel it’s right for you, then my suggestion is to keep leaning into it.

So... why do I feel like I don't know enough to even seek a position in FAANG even though i reached maturity in C++ (18 years of experience) and 14 years of leading projects from start to finish (coordinating 8 to 10 Teams in the past few years) while still touching the code? Maybe because I no longer remember all the school level algorithmic topics? I don't know...

18 years of C++ is freaking incredible and respectable.
