So, how do they know your age or appearance based on a CV? I get the feeling that your attitude probably has a lot to do with it.

Cody S. Sad to say many management companies that handle staffing require vast amount of information. To the extent that some even require a 30 second video of you showing your full body. Remember they basically do not have discrimination laws like in the US.

I work in NYC Ferry as deckhand, but I want to gain that exprience maybe even become captain then move on to yachts. Im only 26 almost 27 think when im 30 i'd want to start yachting once I get my training/certifications done. I'm always flexible so if someone teaches me something ill do it no matter the boat i'll adapt to it. I love cleaning all my skills basically allign with this job and I love it, but dont like working Ferry services.

Tom Pick just about,i am a day worker on a super yacht but there is a competition between 3 of us,as far as I’ve been told the captain just picked my cv up by just choosing my cv randomly so I guess it was just luck ,so far i am doing my best and hopefully to get a job with them or if not a position at least 2 months of day working

Tom Pick some may get a job on dockwalking but I’m not really sure if is the right thing to do,if you have no responsibilities and willing to take the risk then is your choice,obviously you need money as well. My mate is dockwalking now in palma and had no luck so far,I expected someone to call me and applied everywhere,i would rather play safe than going there and risk . Some say that if you are good looking then you won’t have a problem but I don’t know about that

Hi baker..its gud to see your video. As I heard for fresher have to go for dock-walking & get job as a day worker. get experience & then only we can get into yacht industry . But what if we are not staying near sea or nobody's know around you about yacht industry. How we will get into yacht industry.

I am a senior in high school and plan on becoming a boat captain but to start as a deckhand. I am starting to look at colleges and plan for my future. What would you recommend me to look into if I did go to college or is it better to jump right into getting my certifications and start early and get more experience? Also is it a good idea to get a degree as a back up in case something goes wrong as something to be able to fall back on?

Hey Halle! I guess that depends on a few things. If you have an opportunity to go to college then I definitely encourage you to do so, especially if you'll receive financial help from your family. However, if you are going to to have to use student loans to pay for your education, working on a yacht for a few years first might be a better option! Hi, I would like to have your honest opinion about the following : nevertheless I had 2 ocean passages in a sailing boat and have racing about 7 years I think deckhand jobs are not for a 54 years old. I already had my own sailing boat and I begin to see below deckhand TV show and amazing sailing yachts and jobs around the world. I am very well fitted and I do yoga for about 20 years. I am passioned about sailing and the Sea. Do you think age is a problem in this industry? Thanks in advance and all the best Paulo

what about licensed nurses? How often to larger yachts hire on stew's who are also trained nurses? I have no stew experience, but, I do have hospitality experience. I was looking online for 3rd stew positions and thought that perhaps my nursing licensure would play into my favor for being hired. What do you think? Also, do you think that would mean more money?

Would it be possible to Work on a yacht during the summer between college years?

Hi, yes- that would be possible. You could get your STCW during winter break, and then try to line up a summer job for the following summer. It will e much easier to find something if you already have your STCW and ENG-1 completed.

hello. I have visible tattoos but have experience working on cruise ships. do you think is possible to get hired anyway? most of the vacancies I've seen asks for no visible tattoos, but some of them don't mention this

Hi, it definitely makes it more difficult but it' not impossible to get hired with tattoos. You just need to be upfront about it during the interview and hopefully you'll fin d a boat/captain that doesn't mind tattoos. Otherwise you can try to cover them up if possible?
