It’s just hard cuz I’m really shy too and I work with him so I’m worried he’s not interested & me telling him only annoys him. It's not a terrible idea to tell him straight. Unless you are scared that he may be a coward, or if you want him to put in some effort, then you can try any of the other steps. However, and I've noticed that with girls too, if they decline your invitation, call or anything of the kind, they are most probably not interested.
