4:28 - no filters; 4:42 - GK amp standard settings; 4:56 - GK amp custom settings. I can clearly notice a huge difference between no filters and the GK amp effect. Love that almost synthesised, round fat low-end.

since im not a bass player this helped me understand more. i am an aspiring audio engineer so it helps me understand how to get the tones im looking for. So now if im working with someone that wants to to slap bass i understand exactly how to get that sound.

Thanks for the helpful info.Just learned how to slap a bass.I bought a cheap short scale 4 string pj style bass that came stock with nickelwounds and had ridiculously low action.i made some improvements by adjusting the bridge higher, fabricated a small custom string retainer made from a strap button for firm tension,and added some treble bleeds to my volume pots.then i made a good bass rig with a fender acoustasonic 15 amplifier ( has onboard eq and chorus), booster,compressor and a volume wah pedal in stereo using a single 2 way speaker.sounds decent like a real fender pj bass now.

LOL!!!! I liked your how your bass sounds without ANY amp. When you turned on BIASFX it just broke the whole fullness of it. Also I am aware that you play Fender Jazz Bass Marcus Miller limited which out of the box sounds amazing... That's a bit funny that you use such complete and flawless bass to show the settings. You should use some Squire or other "cheap bass" because the contrast here may confuse some people. Anyway, I consider this guide quite full and useful even though I'm into bass guitar for over 2 years now. GJ

Bassist and live sound engineer for over 20 years here. There is a big difference when listening to bass solo and in a band. The fullness you are talking about can create problems in a band, the tone he got would work exactly right. For a funky slap sound you need the bass to be tight because you are playing a lot of notes. Full bass sound is for rnb, pop ballads etc, where you play few long notes.

What pickup selection did you have for that slap sound? Just bridge? or Neck and Bridge?
@HTA92ANG4 жыл бұрын
If you're looking for that thumpy sound of the p bass go with the neck pickup but I recommend using both pickups it's magic

Do you guys recommend using the studio monitors with bass? I'm not sure if that will damage the speakers

dude! i cannot get that deep/bright sound. what am I doing wrong? new mm strings, jazz bass, what else can I do?
@ShortFuseFighting Жыл бұрын
a friend of mine was lamenting the fact his bass simply refuses to slap. i took a look and it wasnt the setup, it wasnt the strings, it wasnt technique. it just produced a woody, thumpy, muddy tone no matter what so i fiddled around with various plugins and i found a combo to make ANY bass sound like a warwick no matter what. get a copy of "Blue Cat's Axiom". i think they have a free 30 days demo (or torrent it and buy it later if you like it).one of the amp sims in there slaps like a beast. make a few tweeks, add some compression and and some EQ-ing and youre good to go

first thing to do with your GK transistor amp - swap out the preamp tubes! just kidding, love the options.

I boost 800 hz with a narrow q on the EQ after the preamp. Adds more clarity.
