You're welcome! In an ideal world you could use your fall semester projects as case studies for your portfolio but, in the meantime, you can tackle all the other fun things like cover letters, portfolio site setups, resumes, etc. Good luck!

Hi Ricardo, may I ask for a second opinion regarding my situation? I recently completed my first internship at a small startup and am currently working part-time as a UI/UX designer while attending school. As I'm in my senior year, I'm wondering if it would be more beneficial to have another internship experience (it's going to be during my final term, and the summer internship application season is from January to April 2024), and then aim for a big tech internship? Or should I focus solely on applying for summer internships at big tech companies during that time? I would really appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks for your time!

@@leeimkyung Would you have graduated by the time you intern in the summer of 2024? If I remember correctly, Google requires you to be enrolled at the time of the internship to qualify but you'd need to double check the rules for other similar companies. I would make your decision based on where you'd like to work full-time after you graduate because I would treat your final internship as a stepping stone to get a full time position at that company. For example, I interned at both Wish and Google and got full-time offers after the internship (which was my goal) and then I started working full - time after the internship. So I would use that as a way to guide your decision - do you want to work full time at a large or small company after you graduate? Hope that helps :)

Yes, I’m hoping to secure a full-time job after the internship! Oh, that’s true, I’ll have graduated by then. I’ll double-check the rules for other similar companies. Thank you so much for your helpful advice!

Hey Ricardo -- your energy is so refreshing and you're just so real. Love love love your channel!! I just graduated from a Master's in Human-Computer Interaction and want to step into the product design world so your videos have been so helpful!!! Just curious how you approached getting internships after graduating from school? It seems like most require you return to the programme after the internship :) anyway, keep it up! Looking forward to all your videos~~

Hiii! 👋🏼 Thank you so much! That means a lot 🥹 I actually got all of my internships while I was in school for that very reason because most of them require you to be enrolled in school. Wish was the only one that didn’t require you to be a student.

this was great information but as i'm in my last year, i'm now preparing to apply for early careers/new grad positions for summer/fall 2024. would you say there's any distinct information that sets that process apart from the internship process?
@rahpstudio
@rahpstudio 8 ай бұрын
Thank you, and thanks for being here! From my experience, the hiring process for new graduate positions tends to be more involved than for internships. I recall that during my interview at Instagram, I underwent approximately seven interviews-including whiteboarding, app critique, portfolio review, etc. In contrast, the internship process had fewer steps. For instance, the Google internship required only two interviews before the team-matching phase and an additional two interviews to transition from intern to full-time. In summary, the internship process is generally more straightforward. This is likely because many companies prefer to hire their former interns. As a result, new grad roles tend to be more competitive given the larger pool of applicants. I believe starting your job search early could offer you an advantage so it's great that you're preparing now. If you can secure an internship while wrapping up your spring semester, it would be an excellent opportunity to get a foot in the door and leverage your student status. Hope this helps and best of luck! 💛

I am so glad that I found your KZbin channel. First of all, thank you for your awesome content. I have a few doubts, and I hope you can help me. I am from India. I have completed one internship and am currently working on a freelance project. My aim is to be placed in a TOP company. However, I have heard that starting a career as a UX designer may not be safe at the moment. There is a lot of revolution happening, so is UX not a good option? Is that true? Will 2024 offer many UX opportunities for junior roles?
@rahpstudio
@rahpstudio 8 ай бұрын
You're very welcome! That's a great question, but it's really hard to predict. I think the tech sector in general, along with many related industries, has been negatively impacted by macroeconomic conditions. The future state of the UX field will depend largely on what those conditions look like in 2024. I will say that while junior roles are definitely more competitive nowadays, there are still many exciting challenges brought about by new technologies that will require UX/Product designers to solve human problems. I think you are setting yourself up well with your internship and the freelance project under your belt. So, what I would do is shut out all the noise and fear-mongering and focus on your goals, giving yourself time to achieve them. Treat it like a design problem - test yourself in the job market for X amount of time, and if things don't work out, then go back to the drawing board and figure out the next step. But don't let other people's fears and worries deter you from your goals. Hope this helps, and good luck!
