Yes, that's right. You should complete the 2 years service. But, on the positive side, if you are an SJMC alumni & you have completed the 2 years service, there is a special reservation for PG seats in SJMC.

Please note that St. John's does not have any reservation for OBC candidates. Being a Roman Catholic Christian candidate from Kerala, you can get a seat under Category 8: Roman Catholic Christian All India Open Merit. The cutoff marks for Category 8 was 545 marks in 2019. If the exam is of same difficulty as last year, then you need to score at least around 550+ marks to have a chance in St. John's under Category 8. The competition at all India level will be tough. Comparatively, state level competition might be slightly easier. You can study anywhere, no problem. But, studying within your state has its advantages as you may be closer to your home & also you may not have any language barrier.
