How To Get All 3 Starters in Pokémon Red/Blue (Tutorial)

This is a tutorial of the glitch that allows you to get all 3 starters in Pokémon Red/Blue

In this case, high-level Pokémon may not obey their Trainer's commands because they're considered traded. You need to obtain Gym Badges to control two other Pokémon. It's a bit troublesome.

In the game, it goes by gym badge OR starters level. For example: If your starter is level 100 before Brock. Any Pokémon level 100 would listen.

The way I figured out on my gameboy color which I'm continuously doing now for japanese green is when the exclamation mark comes up for when it's actually saving turn it off and back on. It has to be right before the saving sound. To early it corrupts and to late and you have no pokemon. Also don't leave your house when your trying for the second or third save glitch.

To anyone having issues with corrupting every time your resetting slightly to fast and learning the timing takes a while. Took me almost 2 days of resetting to get it 3 time's in a row. Also I did it on the english and japanese version using a gameboy color.

@lewisallen4644 is your power switch easy to turn off and back on? If so watch for the exclamation point and the moment it displays when your saving turn it off and back on if you catch it to early it corrupts and to late and it saves if it corrupted you can get one more shot off that save file by trying the same trick again and picking a different Pokémon so that when the file merges you have the second one

In case anyones having issues here, i found that having the fast forward on makes it harder to hit that "sweet spot" on timing when to reset. Try turning it off, cause it worked for me the first try. If you still have issues, you might have a patched rom so it might be better to find an earlier version of it.

so i did it exactly as you said to do it..."once you hit yes you have to almost immediately hit the reset button" i did that but it ended up with the file being destroyed 100% of the time so maybe not to instant then

The method involves saving only half of the data and then immediately resetting to achieve a Pokémon save while starting over. So, you'll need to try several times like in the video. The timing gap is quite short, less than a second.

With an emulator you can slow down the frames as needed and wait till the yes and no box disappear completely before anything else pops up you reset then

I just figured it out on the game boy color! What!?!?! I wish I would’ve known this 25 year ago. I think I remember seeing how you can get mew. I’m doing that next.

the mew glitch allows you to get the starters as well. The enemies special value determines which Pokemon you will encounter. With the Mew glitch, it takes until the end of the game though.

The ditto glitch allows you to get all 151 Pokémon. Very tedious though.

The original Pokémon games were so genius: make different versions of the same game and force people to trade with each other to get all Pokémon, I mean wow lol

Actually you can get all 151 without a GameShark or trading whatsoever. Not even with the traders in the game. There’s a glitch for it and it’s long, it took me two weeks a long time ago to do this.. I mean glitching day in and day out. It’s way more tedious than this but actually easier. So if this doesn’t work for you, there’s still a way. Look it up though bc I forget exactly how it’s done.

The ditto glitch will get you all 151 Pokémon. I’ve done it and went to the devs in celadon condominiums and they gave me a certificate for completion.

I guess you could just breed them with ditto to get a new one and that would give you a new charmander with your name as Original Trainer?

It works. I just did it on GBA with original blue cartridge. You have to turn it off immediately after the second yes disappears, but before any text shows up in the second box.

How long did it take you? I’ve been trying it for close to two hours and it either corrupts the file, comes back at the same continued file or doesn’t have the Pokémon there. Frustrating as hell!

Because the first starter pokemon was caught on a game with a different trainer ID, so the game considers the pokemon to be traded.

It does work, but it is not worth the hassle. Just use game shark or play yellow version if you want all the starters, as it will not glitch the pokedex this way. * The guy at the video explains it wrong. You must reset the game after the yes/no box vanishes, and before the text below changes. There is another video explaining it better than this one.
