I just spotted this little boat in the side of the highway and it’s been sitting there for over a month,with a trailer and everything and I am kinda surprised that the authorities didn’t do anything yet

I recently pulled a half sunk 12ft fiberglass gamefisher out of a runoff creek and it was obvious that someone dumped it there, it looks like it was run a ground a little too hard and they didn’t want to repair it, I knew it was dumped because it was filled with bags of trash and there’s no way a boat can get there without putting it there yourself, it was there for a good month and a half before I decided to go pull it out. I have pictures of how I found it, any advice on how I can officially make it mine?

You can usually apply it as Ana abandoned boat and there is a 6 month waiting to list to see if anyone claims it then it becomes all yours.

Well if coming across with a boat like this, my first action would be to try to locate its original owner and let them know where it is. I rather do that, than going trough a situation to appropriate something that is not mine. I guess maybe that is the reason for the difficulty of trying to get a title replacement and also why you see so many little boats here and there being posted on sale on marketplace with the infamous "no title" label, exposing people to a bad deal situation.

Yeah I found a wakeboard boat and notified the owner and they said it was a insurance claim and they wouldn’t sign anything. I let them know exactly where the boat was at.

A lot of times if you have proof of sending to owners address and get no replies or returned mail you can turn that in as proof of abandonment. If you have the boat on your property and documented by a notary the you can also turn in and have it deemed as abandoned.

I’m going to pull a 14 foot John boat out of about 4 of water today😂 I’m bringing it home and if I can’t title it, it’s getting cut up for scrap metal that I’m going to use for projects on my other John boat so I’m either getting a new boat or a new set of float pods😂😂 it’s a win win

So I know some states require you to actually title and register your outboards as well. I guess places like here where they don’t if you find an abandoned boat with an outboard it would be fair game lol

Yeah it’s so much gray area and trying to get titles. Then supposedly inboards you don’t have to register. So many legal hurdles

I have an airboat WITH-OUT VIN numbers anywhere to be found, I was givin No Title or Bill of sale, SoThen What? No engine on airboat but about everything else is there and functional, It use to have a small block Chevy V8 till it blew-up then boat sat very long time.... It appears it would float and run across the water after just installing an engine.. it even came with its wooden prop! The dude I got it from said just register it as home made... he doesn't know original owner from years ago and they're probably deceased by now he told me..anyway this guy mostly just wanted it gone from his shop to make room so I got boat and trailer for a $1000... But No paper work on either... there's No vin on either that i can find.. I'm in Florida and hope homemade' works with our DMV here........ its weird absolutely can't find a vin number anywhere on them but it's a fact....airboat is fiberglass and with pretty decent looking trailer as well, so we'll see what happens....... I'm hopeful.. I hear good things about Vermont and people with no titles.... 🤔

Sounds like you got a good buy frank. That’s a tough one tho because your gonna have to have the boat inspected by a game and fish or who Florida rules put as the person to check it over before they can assign a vin if there aren’t registration numbers on it. If you can simply get a bill of sale from that guy if that falls through could be a good backup plan. That Vermont loophole is meant for getting a registration without a title as long as there isn’t a lien or the boat being stolen. That registration is for non residents and then the state you live in will acknowledge the registration and send out a new title for that state. Hope that helps bud

That’s a risk when you do that. Then you gotta find the original owner and have it signed over or else they still hold the title and you can’t register it. There is a bonded title you can apply for.

I boat a 1983 Ranger 372v from someone on Facebook in NC with no Title or Registration. That owner told me that he also bought it from someone else in SC without a title or registration. I spoke with that owner on the phone and he told bought the boat from someone else and the same thing. I have the VIN number and Bill of Sale papers signed from the owner I bought it from. How do I find the registration or register it????

Your state should have a registration database. Type in the vin. I would look up that and see who it’s registered to. Most likely that is the title holder.

In gary saw a small sail boat on top of trailor. I was told to speak to the DNR no not do not resuscitate but going on a journey here. So i think ill keep quiet or someone else might want it. I already think my name is on it.

Talk to the state your in about the abandoned boats process and turning it in if they have a list. You can always contact them to try the owners details and contact the owner to see if they will release it to you.

@@TBassFactory how does one get it out of the location it is in? It’s flipped upside down in some bushes. So I talk to the police about the abandoned boat process after I see if they can find the owner, then if they can’t or can find the owners talk to the owner seeing if they still want it?

I have over 20 hours of research on how to get or where to get my hands on either a free boat or a place to bid or pay minimum money to get a abandoned boat. Something that I can restore back to new and doesn’t cost a arm and a leg to fix back up and make seaworthy again. I had my 21’ center console off my truck just 7 weeks ago. They stole my bumper that cost over 2,500 plus the custom led lighting that I had on it. And insurance still hasn’t paid me they classsified it as “SUSPICIOUS”, and refused to pay for it so far. Even with game warden, State police, city police, and their statements and written testimonies. Guess I’m going to hv to get lawyers involved so everyone with boats and thinking they are covered with insurance boat insurance is a double edge sword. Because I had over 11 rod reel combos, Avet reels, penn reels over 500,00 all myvtackle and gear was in that boat,spot weld the bolts holding bumpers on

That is gonna be a tough one for all of the proper paperwork. It would be best to go to the game and fish and tell them your situation. If you do t like what they tell you there is always the option to turn in as an abandoned boat.
