Great approach to get most out of the limited supply official questions! I wish I had watched this earlier.

Great video-- very insightful principles and examples! I'm curious, under what circumstances do you advise reviewing an unofficial explanation, and from which source? (for example, Manhattan GMAT Navigator, or a GMAT Club question search). I know for many verbal questions, you've posted outstanding explanations on GMAT Club.

Thank you for the kind words about our explanations, Ben! Honestly, a lot of non-official explanations suffer from the same problems that Mike describes in the video: some are great, others not so much -- and no source is perfect, so we won't endorse any here. If you can avoid relying on written explanations (even ours!) by following the steps in the video, that's ideal. If you feel that you absolutely have to spend your precious study time reading non-official explanations, then I guess you'll want to use whichever source seems to resonate best with you -- but again, I think it's best to use them sparingly, for the reasons Mike lays out in the video.

I think the best approach to solve the middle question is to substitute and eliminate the 5 answer choices to the equation in the ques which comes out to be as x=-2.

Anyone has an alternative solution to the consecutive integer fraction problem?
@GMATNinjaTutoring20 күн бұрын
If anyone has an efficient, alternative solution, we'd love to hear it! Obviously you could take one of the "standard" mechanical approaches mentioned in the video (e.g. finding common denominators to add the fractions or doing long division five times and adding the results), but unless you're an arithmetic wiz, those time consuming and error-prone approaches are not recommended. Just remember that, as discussed in the video, the goal of your GMAT studying isn't to "learn" (i.e. memorize) a bunch of efficient solutions -- you certainly won't come up with a great solution path every time, but you won't strengthen those reasoning muscles if you don't TRY your best to come up with an efficient solution to every new, unique problem that you see. Reading an alternative solution to this problem might be interesting, but it's not likely to help you improve.

Just plug in each value and see which one fits the equation. Much faster than the given solution.
