In this video, I show an approach for getting close to birds for photography | Tips & Tricks. Some geese started to feed regularly close to my home and one species which I've never seen in Scotland before, the Egyptian goose was amongst them. So immediately I dropped what I was doing and came up with a plan for photographing it.

👍👍👍. The Egyptian goose seemed to think it was his field. He certainly wouldn't want to fly around too much when they are shooting, not with that target on his chest😉

Brilliant video, Beautiful photos. We have many Egyptian Geese here, Some say Egyptian Duck in Norfolk, in fact there is a very large population of Different Geese, in Norfolk it can get very noisy at times at some of the lakes. Many thanks for sharing.

Pity the other geese couldn't understand Egyptian 😿 at least they were friendly! And they were smart... "keep your heads down" geese, when those guns were going off. (Grrr!) Happy New Year from Ayrshire, Espen. ✌

Great video with lots of tips for the spring migration...one difference will be access to fields since land ownership laws in Canada are a lot different than those in the UK and especially Scotland. But we do have a lot of country roads that parallel fields that will be useful for some photography opportunities...3 months to wait now!!

We get loads of Canada Geese around Salisbury in Wiltshire but do get the odd Greylag which I consider more attractive. Usually on water near me so far easier to approach! The Egyptian is being seen as a bit of a pest now they breed so well ! Anyway good stalking skills all the best Mark 👍😍

Great stuff Espen! Thanks so much for the inspiration, we have lots of dry stone walls around here, and I'll use the tips to see how I get on, not necessarily geese but other subjects especially now in lockdown as I shouldn't be going too far from home...👍

I've only just found your channel and loving going through your back catalogue, thanks for your work I have a sparrowhawk that sits in my tree about twice a week, she stays for 10mins unless disturbed, but is a little bit too far from the house for the 40-150Pro + 1.4TC. The first time I saw her, I managed to walk at a slow pace to around 15m and got 5mins with her before she took flight. But ever since, I try to creep very slowly towards her, but she's spooked as soon as I become visible. I'm guessing she's more nervous about things creeping up, she doesn't seem bothered about cars or people walking out in the road. Any tips apart from a hide? Do you think she will get used to me if I keep trying or will I scare her off for good? I'm not a bird person BTW Best regards from Wales

Thanks Bob! I think your best bet is to use a hide or try approaching in a car. Every bird of prey I’ve encountered are super aware of people and will not sit around if you approach visibly. Can you approach behind a structure? Even hang up something in between your house and where it lands that would hide your approach?

I’ve seen an Egyptian goose here in our river in Prato , Tuscany, but always one on its own. Why do you think they are often loners? Noticed the one you photographed was too. Great video as always.
