I love listening to your podcasts, you're rich with wisdom and insight as to how to make sense of this strange and often complicated and confusing world. With respect, I do not like the title in the thumbnail "Always be on the offensive".. there is a misconception within the world towards the Jewish people, that they are insufferable to deal with/work with, because they're always "on the offensive" and slant their language in a way that is forgiving of their misdeeds and hyper-prosecutorial towards the misdeeds of others. I would suggest developing confidence through humility, being humble towards your interactions with others. If you can show you're a person of compassion and empathy, while expressing a message of understanding for your adversary, I believe you'd find a greater state of peace between the Jewish people, and the countless groups who seem to take issue with them. Relationships of any kind involve an exchange of give and take, if you're even perceived to be more taking than you are giving, people grow contemptuous. Idk, I'm just going off the top of the dome, but I heard my anti-Semitic relatives screaming "SEE, THEY NEVER GIVE AN INCH!!!!!" in my head when I saw that title. Hopefully food for thought. @@RyanDavis-zg2bw, Thought and Attention ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ First, let's look that our mind or consciousness is but sensations or vibrations basically. If there are no sensations, there is no life or liveliness. And in whole of our liveliness, there are only two fundamentally different potentials: 1. Attention or attending. 2. Thought or thinking. These two are not opposites of each other but are fundamentally different; and there is no other potential in our mind, consciousness. Attention in itself is but presence of the mind, in which all senses are awake without intervention of thought, thus whole of our mind is awake and in action being unbiased. Attention is silent energy but never away from what is, not away from sensations and feelings, not away from the body-mind as it is. Thus attention per se is free of time as the past and future. Thought is process in time, the past and future; that is, without past as a storage in the mind the process of thinking is impossible, and that only a part of the mind is involved in it. Further, thought, thinking could be speeded up, slowed down or get suspended as in samadhi, unmani, shaktipat or something such. In other words, the suspension of thought/time could involve suspension of the other senses or not, but in any case it is other than attention. Thought necessarily implies values, with its instruments of calculating, analysing, designing etc, which could go relatively right or wrong, good or bad, more or less, pleasing or paining; and in its suspension its valuation also gets suspended accordingly. Whereas, attention in itself is free of any values, and free of suspension even; attention is invaluable, nirañjan or pure energy. Attention can use thought, but not vice versa. However, it's a pity that thought has become all important in most of us, and it is dominating attention almost all the time; but attention is so unconditional yet vulnerable energy that, say, while standing or driving a car if we loose attention for a second or half, we collapse or have an accident. Furthermore, thought has a capacity of designing things, which does not mean thought should start designing ways or things, myths, consciously or unconsciously, in the name of religion or design God, which is a matter of common sense to understand. A western seer, as Buddha, Gorakh and so on from the east, rightly says - Why do you prate about God? Everything you say about God is untrue. - Meister Elkhart, 11th century mystic from Germany. Look, who asks questions like what's God? who I'm? who dies? what's ego or self? ... Thought is needed in daily life, without which daily life is impossible. Further, even if chattering goes on in the mind or not, but what's the sense of involving in thought for everything every time! We drive our car attentively, good; we may ask about road, destination etc as needed, alright; but do you ask ever how attentively I should drive a car? We cannot ask a question about attention and drive a car! Life and living are inseparable, in which there is no question. Psychologically, questioning involves time, which is but becoming sorrow and ignorance. Attention in itself is not time; instead, when lived wisely, being insightful, attention is the ending of time sorrow and ignorance. * Gorakh Sabadi 244: cyanta acyanta hī upajai, cyantā saba juga kṣīṇa, jogī cyantā bīsarai, tau hoī acyantahi līna. Thought arises from non-thought, thought is the sorrow of ages. The yogi gives up thought and is absorbed in non-thought. (244) 🌞🍒🕊️
