How to get COOL rating EASY in Parappa the Rapper Remastered

I could never find a good video or guide on how to achieve "Cool" ratings. So I decided once I found out a way I'd make a video for everyone else and me for future reference.

So each input, you can double input it. So you want to click the input just prior to when you would need too, then again straight after when the original input is meant. This will class as freestyling.
1. Finish a line normally, so that after "COOL" is flashing.
2. Double input your first note when it comes, then finish the remainder of the line normally (you can add another double input somewhere to be certain)
Usually this will enter me into cool, it can sometimes mess up just keep attempting it, I managed to get it using this technique on all the stages.
WHEN IN COOL MODE:
Just alternate between clicking L1 & R1. If "Good" Starts to flash it means you're about to go down a level, so either click L1 then R1 slower or faster. I usually gound tapping them slightly slower was the best shot.

These games are kinda bad when you think about it, besides making a cake just being completely off rhythm...to get a cool rating you just kinda need to fuck around? Press buttons at ransom kinda game rather than a rhythm game to me. Parappa 2 is good but still has the issue of getting cool mode doesn't really make any sense

Parappa 2 actually tracks the buttons you press that aren't related to the teacher's inputs, so it's less about mashing in that game

Parappa 1's cool mode was added just as an inside joke from the developers pretty much but then Parappa 2 took it a lot more seriously cuz of what Toader The Toad said

i think considering that these were some of the earliest rhythm games ever made, and that cool mode is entirely optional, it's not that bad. but yes they have aged quite poorly. i find parappa 2's cool mode is way more consistent though and actually rhythm based.

Congrats! I remember I had something similar with Prince of Persia, a boss that I couldn't get past for ages, left it for a good 10 years and came back to defeat it. It is very rewarding!

Let my 10 yr old try..Of course he got over 500 pts on first three levels on the first try...took me a week to get that. Put him in his place with Cool mode, 1200pts

Even on stage 4. Double tap on every single input. It’s the easiest way to achieve this on that stage and all others. Stage 5 I got it straight away but stage 4 is arguable the hardest to get cool and stay in it. I went to cool 5 times before I got it (completed the song).

I've used my guide a couple more times since I've made it and actually updated my written guide for certain stages. It seems the game is inconsistent and a lot of the times you'll be repeating what I've said until the game decides to like you. Hopefully some of these might help you! UPDATE (1/02/2024): **Stage 4** The cool ratings works, but its inconsistent. Stage 6 and 5 it worked easily on. For stage 4 I used this; kzbin.info/www/bejne/bIHYZ36Bg5Kcq9E " My advice: - The way I found semi-consistent at getting into Cool mode, was to try and press each of the button prompts just before you're supposed to, and then for the last 2 buttons on each bar (the L1 and R1), basically press R1 into L1 on each prompt. E.g. On the first R1, press R1 and L1 immediately after you've pressed R1. Then on the L1 prompt after that, press L1 into R1. And do the same on the next bar. (11/03/24) - This technique didnt work, instead I spammed the button for two inputs VERY quickly. **Stage 3** - I stuck to just inputting the moves in time, with no extras apart from when the star appeared. So just click in time with the beats and stick with the same button on the string with teh stars.
