Hi Matt I had some advice not to have either a power pack (not sure how you would) or inverter connected to the vehicle earth because modern vehicle are much more sensitive to sudden changes in voltages and can cause damage to the vehicle alternator or ECU if there is a momentary surge through the vehicle earth?
@MotorhomeMatt
@MotorhomeMatt 5 күн бұрын
This could well be true. We use a power pack on our motorhome but it’s not connected to the vehicle earth atall.

Evening guys, nice to see you mentioned my tip about Alert Cops.. Cuevas del Almanzora is Spanish for Caves of Almanzora...it's about 20 minutes from Mojacar, Almeria. The local council are currently building a free Aire in the town for motorhomes which will come in handy!

Hi, I use a EcoFlow to power my van and never once thought about it not being earthed. I just thought the onboard trip switch on the van would do the job. Would a RCD plug save the day or is this still a risk.
@MotorhomeMatt
@MotorhomeMatt 14 күн бұрын
The van would be earthed to the portable power pack. It’s only dangerous if something were to go wrong and short. I’d suggest speaking to an electrician as I did on this. We’ve had a couple of very helpful comments on here from some. Thanks for watching and commenting

hi matt a few months back on your vlog about sv and dvla not going to change upplating to hgv cheap tax , iv just found this on fb --------Finally got all our paperwork back from the DVLA from upgrading our 2025 Voyager 584 up to 4000kg, using SV Tech. There had been lots of misinformation that the DVLA weren’t altering the tax categorie now to Private HGV with its much cheaper tax. I can confirm our V5 does have Private HGV on it and have received a cheque for £165 for the difference of the rest of years tax …….

I finally got my upplating through yesterday to 3.9t (using SVT), and DVLA said I couldn’t change the tax classification due to “the law”. I’m of the opinion that DVLA are making it up as they go along, and want to investigate this further.

5G works on different frequencies to 4G and has a shorter range than 4G, which is why most 5G will only be found in towns & cities. Out in the countryside, you can mostly expect to receive 4G as it has a greater range from the transmitter mast. Cardiff has 5G, however, there are many blind spots within the city where you can’t get any service whatsoever. My phone is on O2 and I can’t get a signal in the Principality Stadium for instance.

Good point on powerbanks not being earthed. Also, the usual integration that is promoted through YT is to use the 12v socket and feed into the fuse box but that port only delivers 10 Amps. Not anywhere near enough to power all the 12v electrics in some MHs.

Hi Matt, Talk Mobile (Vodafone) unlimited sim, with eu roaming, on a monthly rolling contract is £16/mnth. I use one with a Falcon rural broadband setup at home. Darren, aka the urban motorhome, recently shared how he plugged his ecoflow into a borrowed van, and suggested he would go that way rather than the expense of lithium if he was a weekend camper. No mention whether ecoflow is safe to do so, or any mention of potential earthing dangers, especially concerning as he’s sponsored by them. Great vlog again. Ps, did Keith’s shirt have wider stripes than yours or was it the same but they just had to stretch further😮😂

I imagine lots of people do this but the reality is there is no earth to ground. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@nigelbeaven5215
@nigelbeaven5215 15 күн бұрын
As an electrician the absence of an “earth” on a system isn’t necessary a problem. It’s all about differential potential…. As long as you as a person cannot be connected across a potential it is safe. Look at double insulated products. hairdryers are one. And the is suitable protection against overload or fault protection. I installed double insulating transformers on a test bench for a company where there was a risk of engineers touching live cables. This removed the risk and ability to be connected to live and earth at the same time…..
@nigelbeaven5215
@nigelbeaven5215 15 күн бұрын
The Earthing of a mobile home on a site is more about making sure that all the metal boxes are at the same electrical potential which is the same as the ground around them thus you don’t get a shock. If your generating your own voltage then so long as you can’t touch across voltage alls 👍

If you plugged the power pack into the hook up point on your motorhome the power to the outlets ie. kettle woud be running through your RCD so it would trip everthing van side of that breaker should a earth leakage fault develop.. I do not as it happens plug ours in via the external inlet but have often thought of fitting a A B inlet switch so can choose to use it that way. Just the same as you fit for suppling your home with another sourse. ie generator etc. This way it would not make you inlet socket live. Maybe not ...just can not sleep so spend my time tin bed hinking of mad stuff.
@MotorhomeMatt
@MotorhomeMatt 12 күн бұрын
That’s true the trip would still function but the ring main would not have a true earth. Hope you get some sleep soon!

Not entirely convinced about the 4G router unfortunately. I use a TP-Link 4G+ dual band router so it would receive much faster speeds than the Pathway. I also prefer 4G as I spend a lot of time out of town so 4G is more reliable. On our last MH we had the same but with an external antenna and it made a huge difference to the speed.
