How To Get Hired As A PhD Over 40

So first and foremost, when you have a PhD age is not an issue. Most employers realize that people who have a PhD are very dedicated to learning and to their careers. They're lifetime learners. This is an advantage.
What you need to do is see it as an advantage yourself first. Change your mindset, it's not a disadvantage. You need to start talking more about your skills that you have given your experience. This could be your increased vocabulary, your increased experiences, or your increased management skills, just to give a few examples.
An employer is going to believe that you're a manager and that you have management capabilities and skills just because of your age more than somebody else who is younger, who just got out of their PhD program. Leverage this. Say that you deserve a senior role. See yourself as deserving that senior role because of your experiences.

This is very true, I just got hired and I am over 40. I truly thought that it would be seen as a disadvantage. I showed that for the position I got, I understood the more recent problems/ideas and also showed how my work advantage was a good thing. I was able to get experiences valuable to companies and they were interested that I remained plugged into industry despite being a student.

Thank you so much!!! I am going to start my master's in my 40s and planning to do PhD after that. I have been thinking that would be a disadvantage when I enter the job market..but gave me the answer to all my doubts... thanks once again 🙏
