Hey! I’m applying to Waterloo CS, but I’m kinda worried about my first-semester grades. I messed up a few unit tests, so I’ll probably end up with low 90s in Advanced Functions and Physics. Do you think that’ll hurt my chances or lead to an automatic rejection? I’m pretty sure I can get high 90s in my second-semester courses like CS, Calculus, and Chemistry, so I’m wondering if they’ll consider those too. I’ve got some decent extracurriculars for my AIF, and I’ll be applying a bit younger (I’ll be 16) because of some stuff going on in my country. Does my age put me at a disadvantage too?

I don’t think any of that would lead to an auto rejection, you still have a solid chance! A good AIF will def increase your chance of getting accepted but you can also consider doing some of Waterloo’s math/computing contests if they are still open. As for the age part I am not super sure, but I did have a younger classmate in my cs class in first year. Don’t get too stressed and good luck!

Do you think having the non-profit was an important addition to your application or do you think it didn't matter that much?
@ItsAlllllly4 ай бұрын
Honestly, I think it was a really important part of my application. I didn’t have as strong a technical or math background compared to many other applicants, so my non-profit experience definitely helped me stand out. If you have any experience that isn’t directly related to CS, you should absolutely mention it-Waterloo values a diverse range of talents. :D

Could you please share your score for CSMC and Euclid and when you got your offer of admission?
@ItsAlllllly16 күн бұрын
I think I had a 36 on csmc and a 65 on Euclid, I made it to distinction (top 25%) for both but I did not get honour roll for either (top 5%)

Would you say waterloo cares much about grade 11 because of how competitive they are? Let's say you did poorly in grade 11 and then did good in grade 12 would it affect your chances ? Been seeing some people say they give most of the offers with 4 grade 12 courses and 2 grade 11s When did you get your offer?
@ItsAlllllly3 ай бұрын
I received my offer in the May round, which is when most offers are typically given for cs. Waterloo generally doesn’t weigh your grade 11 marks heavily, so don’t stress if that wasn’t your best year. For Waterloo CS, they tend to focus on your Advanced Functions and Calculus grades, so your grades from first semester and up to the midterm of second semester in grade 12 are what really count. I hope this helps!
