Thank you, Steven! This great info as I am just starting out and didn’t know where or how to get it together 😂, but what you said makes so much sense and makes things much more clearer for me!

Happy new year🎉. Thank you so much for all the videos you make. I have learnt so so much from you! Just a suggestion, would you please make a video on how to correctly read/ understand logs as a SOC analyst? Love from Australia 🤍

Happy new year! That is a great suggestion. As logs vary from different technologies, I am not quite sure how I would structure it to be of value to you. Something I’ll need to brainstorm for sure.

The SOC Analyst course with 30+ hands-on labs sounds thorough! How long does it usually take to complete?
@MyDFIR2 күн бұрын
Good question! I say around 3-6 months depending on your experience is a good tile frame. Let me know if you want more details about the course or have any questions!

Thanks for all the great information. I need a career change after a workplace injury. Never having a desk job i wanted to get into cyber security but found most of all jobs around me want IT experience. So I'm doing IT Cert IV at tafe first. Do you think that's a good place to start? When I complete that I am looking at doing your lab training.
@MyDFIRКүн бұрын
Absolutely! Building the foundation is an important step that many choose to ignore but trust me, your future self will thank you.

@MyDFIR Thank you. There is a lot of conflicting information out there.

Bro, I am working on my bachelors in Cyber, got one year left. Did google cert, now doing SOC try hack me. I dont mind persevering and learning but SOC analyst jobs are getting less and less out there. I live in Chicago and there are very few jobs that are even somewhat entry level here or few jobs period. I want to finish my degree and certs either way but...
@MyDFIRКүн бұрын
It definitely various depending on location but you are taking the right steps! If not a SOC, I would say tru broadening the search and look for IT Support roles as well. Although it won’t be monitoring alerts 24/7 but you’ll still get to investigate every now and then while building your technical skills.

Do you feel overwhelmed crafting xml queries and is it normal to consult articles/cheat sheets over and over.

Yes and yes.

@@Umamipapiii do even security analyst with jobs consult these articles. Right now im focusing on like MITRE and TTP's to try and understand mitigation.
@MyDFIR2 күн бұрын
Yes, I frequently review these articles, we must always try and continue learning! (Although I am guilty of slacking off sometimes heheh)

Hey @myDFIR do you still recommend compTIA certs after the acquisition from private equity companies? I’ve seen mixed feelings online about whether the value depreciates given this change so just hoping to gain your insights on the matter or if there is like a cert from GIAC that would be worth looking into
@MyDFIR2 күн бұрын
I would always go for GIAC but I don’t often recommend it due to its cost. As for compTIA certs, it is still early but so far I still see these being “valued” when it comes to job postings.
