I pay plumbers referral in cash. $1,000.00 to $1,600.00. In Los Angeles 80% pay cash for water damages to plumbers. How do you report on your taxes?
@TheRestorationContractor Жыл бұрын
The best way is to 1099 them so you can claim it as a deduction on your taxes. However if they want cash and they don’t want a 1099 you can’t claim it as a deduction The way we’ve done it is to claim the money as owner’s draw when you withdraw it. This way the taxes are paid by you. It isn’t ideal because you will be paying income tax on that money which would be 30% or more If you pay them cash and try to claim it as a deduction you have to issue a 1099 but plumbers won’t accept the 1099 scenario Make sense?

As far as the free dry outs what’s the business model there? How do you make money on a job like that? Reconstruction?

Do you have a script for referrals from roofing companies? I am trying to tap into the roofing company network in my area. I have tweaked this script for roofers but a video on that would be great.

When your giving an estimate is there a certain range that the adjuster wants to see? Does the homeowner make up the difference if insurance doesn’t pay? I quote my own work and have been a service plumber and also own my own remodeling company. The estimation seems intimidating because of the adjuster I guess.
@TheRestorationContractor Жыл бұрын
The answer to this question SHOULD be - no... but that may not be the case Each job is different so the cost should vary based on each job. That said, there are some adjusters that do develop a pattern in terms of what something SHOULD cost. They get here by seeing invoices from other contractors on similar jobs. So, the answer to your question is there isn't an amount they are looking for but they can be triggered by certain estimates at times. I know this feels like a wishy washy answer but it is true. To be honest the best answer I can give you may be... // It depends // It depends on several factors Are you dealing with a desk adjuster that merely cuts checks and never leaves the office - OR - are we talking about a field adjuster that handles BOTH mit and recon (like Farm Bureau) The scenario you are working in is the ultimate deciding factor. Insurance is challenging - and it is a game Learn the game and you can get paid handsomely! It is worth it to learn the game and play it well This is especially true if you are a service plumber. The hardest thing for most restoration contractors is getting the leads. If you are a service plumber you already have this problem handled since you are already responding to wet jobs. The problem is you don't know when they are wet because you are probably NOT CHECKING the way you would if you were a formally trained restoration contractor If you are serious about jumping into restoration reach out to us and let us help you 99% of plumbers don't have the chops or the stomach for restoration If you are the 1%... you will love your life (once you figure out the game) hope this helps

Hi there, in Los Angeles California we pay 1k to 2k on referrals and all plumbers want cash! On the taxes how can we report the referrals?
@TheRestorationContractor Жыл бұрын
This isn't legal advice or tax advice... full disclaimer! That said, this is what you could do If you are going to pay them cash (not 1099 them) then you will have to claim the withdrawal as personal draw. In other words you will be paying income tax on that money. I think this would keep you legal. Where you get into trouble is when you try to claim the cash withdrawal as a business expense. That would get you in trouble. Claiming it as personal draw is like you giving them a cash gift. I'm not a tax expert but I know you can "gift" money away each year AND write that off as a "gift" I think the limit is something like 11k per year. I wouldn't try and claim it as a gift though... It could get flagged as suspicious activity and then incite an IRS audit... NOBODY wants to be audited I was audited once myself.... was very stressful Hope this helps

When I call plumbers they say they already have a guy and I get discouraged but I’ll never give up, I just need to be more efficient and effective and this is good for confidence. I need to get those damn jobs!

What do you recommend doing if you write an out of pocket estimate and the homeowner decides to file a claim after the fact you've started or done the work and they have given estimate to insurance? How do you approach and go about that?

we don't offer certifications. You have to go through the iicrc for that. We do have a starter launch program if you are interested. In there we show you what you need, where to get it, insurance, gear and more www.workwithshane.com to learn more

Are you talking to the plumbers in the field or the ones who own the company. Is there a difference between your approach to a large plumbing company verse a small 3 man crew plumbing shop?
@TheRestorationContractor Жыл бұрын
Both! Yes, there is a difference between a 1-2 truck and a 8+ truck outfit. Their pain is different... Many 1-2 truck outfits will mirror other 1-2 truck outfits Larger outfits are normally just a little more complex when building the relationship. More employees = more layers of management to penetrate. If you are interested in plumbers, text me and we can talk shop 615-685-2128

Hey Shane, would you advise going to the plumbers office and talking directly to someone or not? Thank you.

You can. It may work with some but not with others. You need to get in front of them and then find out what they want and give it to them. Let me know if you get stuck!
