Those stickers you were talking about are furring strips. They run somewhere between $1-$2 a piece and come in bundles of like 6 to 8 I think. I used them as floor and ceiling trim in my shop. Looks pretty good actually, gives it that rustic look and doesn't break the bank. They look like they're made out of the sawmill rejects so sometimes you have to pick the best of the bunch or at least be sure to put the best side towards the outside....lol.

When you go to do your driveway to the mill, use your box blade or whatever grading device you have and remove any topsoil from the tract. Then by Crusher Run. When you grade that down you might want to rent a roller too. Grade it, then wet it real well and THEN roll it in. It will set like crazy and last quite a while, especially since it seems to be fairly flat. And you might get some of the locals who do state asphalt work to bring you some loads of millings to top the crusher run with. If you do that you'll have a permanent solution to that problem. I have mentioned this before when you were putting down 57 stone on another driveway.

Pete Peterson, an uncle of mine and a houseframer, would use metal straps normally used on crates. To tie the rafters to the walls. Mind you, he did not settle for tying the rafters to the plates. He ran the strapping from one end of the rafters All the way from one end to the other down the walls and under the floor plate. He would do that to every other rafter.

Talking about stickers Nathan, I wonder if in the history of Sawyers if anyone ever uttered the words "I have too many stickers". Nope. I make my own stickers out of dry waste framing lumber. 1x1. Don't have access to a kiln so I air dry . 1x1 will allow more air through the stack and the wood will dry a little faster. I am a,wood worker so I select the air dried boards for a piece and take them in the house to dry further before starting a new piece. Has always been a successful way to do it for me. You have a great set up there and I enjoy your channel. Keep on keeping on.

Hello Nathan, just wanted to offer an idea for your "Sticker-Boards." I would cut them down to maybe one inch (or bigger) Triangle(s.) This would offer just approx. 1/8" inch contact on the top of the Triangle(s,) and would reduce the bottom contact to one inch. The idea comes from when I worked a Boeing Aircraft here in Washington state, we used smaller (1/2" to 3/4") Triangle's to hold up small parts for spray painting. FYI Architect Triangle Rulers are approx. one inch. My Architect Triangle Ruler measure's 0.967" in.
@xxdragan1969
@xxdragan1969 Жыл бұрын
How did you cut them in shape of the ruler??
@stanwooddave9758
@stanwooddave9758 Жыл бұрын
@@xxdragan1969 Simple as pie. Wink, wink, hold my beer. LOL Let's say you want to cut into triangle's some store brought 1 x 4's. Using a table saw, tilt the table saw blade to 45 degree's. Let's assume that when you do tilt your blade to 45 degree's, when standing in the operator's position to the table saw, the blade tilt's to your upper left, i.e. top of blade is to your left, bottom of blade (non- visible) to the operator is tilted closet to your bottom right side. Your 1st (first) cut should be only enough that the blade will cut from bottom to top of material. Approx. 3/4" in. wide cut, or slightly less. take note during this process, what has now become the top and the bottom of the board during the / this cut. 2nd step is to simply invert (flip / twirl) the board position closet to you, to now; furthest from you position. Keeping the now beveled edge closet to the table saw fence, and the rest of the board {approx. 3" in. or more} mostly past (over-hanging) the saw blade. Your 2nd (second) cut width should be approx. 7/8" in. wide, assuming that you want the top of the triangle to have approx. 1/8" in. width. Adjust according to you like / taste. Now rinse and repeat. Give me my beer back. LOL, wink, wink.

I have heard that using dry stickers to stack wet wood will cause staining. Only thing i can say is i do get slight surface staining, but i have always used dry stickers. Do you think cutting wet stickers out of the same lumber your stacking would eliminate the surface staining once boards are done drying in the kiln? It seems the dry stickers pull moisture out faster than the unstickered part of the boards.
