I have already noticed a difference! Not all gone yet but way better.

Just a quick update. Everything was going great. The fungus gnats were under control. But I bought I plant that was infested with them. I didn't see them till I opened the package it was wrapped in. It's been worse than ever! I had to buy mosquito bits to control the larva. It's working! This is the 2nd week since I started treatment. I have been doing everything else mentioned in the video too. Hopefully they will all "go away" soon. Good luck if you have them!

What is the name of the oil?
@MountainHarmonyGardening11 ай бұрын
It's by Garden Safe and its Neem Oil Extract. Its specifically for organic gardening. I got it at Lowes.. Sorry for taking a while to reply. I've had a cold. If you have any more questions let me know. Thanks for watching!

I place a can of Beer opened, on top of refrigerator and I never see another knat. One can of beer lasts for about 10 months. They're attracted to the yeast in beer. CA has had a LOT of knats, AND early this year. I offer them beer, and they never reappear. Cheers❣

I have never heard of that. It is worth a try if it keeps them away. Thanks for the tip!

I’ve even seen them in the toilet bowl. I’m going to use black landscape material on top on my soil and then pebbles I bought at the store. I use the sticky traps and they really work. I’m always amazed on how many gnats are on them. Even flies. I put a trap in every one of my plants. Both indoors and outside.

Thanks for the info! I haven't seen them in my toilet bowl but coming out of the sinks for sure. I hadn't thought of landscape fabric. What a great idea. I do have pebbles in some of my plants. But not all. I love the zevo traps and I do have them all over my house. I haven't been able to find the traps you put in the plants where I live. Thank you for the great comment!

Hi. Have you seen complete eradication of the gnat populace within your home having taken the steps described?
@MountainHarmonyGardeningКүн бұрын
Yes. It worked great. The only time I got them again was when I brought an outside plant in this fall but I took cutting from what was growing in it and took the planter back outside. None of my other plants have had issues. There are some other great tips in the comments too if you want to check them out. Good luck!

Nematodoes mixed with warmish water, solved my big gnat problem within a week and that's after 1 watering. 100% effective 👍

I've used them on my outside plants but not my houseplants. Great suggestion!

I soak mosquito bits and Neem cake - approx 2 tbsp each in a gallon of water for a few hours or even overnite and water my plants . Also have zevo which really works and the yellow stick traps though I hate the look of those things. People have said sprinkling cinnamon on soil helps… I haven’t tried that though. I use yeast to clean out my house drains once a month.
@MountainHarmonyGardening7 ай бұрын
I haven't been able to find the yellow sticky traps you put in your plants here locally. Where do you get them? I finally got the mosquito bits and they really help. And what kind of yeast do you use to clean you drains? I have tried the cinnamon before and didn't notice a difference. Thanks for the comment!

This is good to know. Are fungus gnats and fruit flies the same critter or different?
@MountainHarmonyGardening11 ай бұрын
They are different but can be treated the same. Fruit flies are smaller and a red color. They are attracted to fruit over soil. If you have ever moved a bowl of fruit that was sitting out and a bunch of flies flew out those are fruit flies. I would recommend the Zevo traps for those as well.

I hung up a bug zapper lite near my plants. It started to ZAP right away! Left it up about a month, & no more zaps. Took it down a year ago & no more gnats. Good luck! Rev. J 😊

The best way to get rid of fungus gnats is to block them so they cannot reach the soil. A top dressing on the potted plant soil such as pea gravel keeps them from the soil and laying eggs. If you already have them sprinkle some Mosquito Bits (sold everywhere) on the soil, do a top dressing of tiny pebbles and water your plant. Bleach in your sink drain will take care of organic matter and so will peroxide
@MountainHarmonyGardening8 ай бұрын
Thank you for the great comment! Another view just suggest the pea gravel too. I have a few plants with that but most don't. I did get some mosquito bits since I made the video. Now that my seedlings are outside I'm going to get some pea gravel for sure and mix with the mosquito bits. And some bleach down the sinks can't hurt. Thanks again!
@TOTALCAMARO8 ай бұрын
Pea gravel is what I was trying to remember. Thank you. I bought 2 bags the other day.
@KayPenn18 ай бұрын
You are welcome! Nothing is as pesty as a fungus gnat or house fly 😂
@KayPenn18 ай бұрын
Wash your pea gravel really well in a well ventilated area because it is covered in silica dust. I use a wheel barrel with holes drilled in it until the water runs clear and let it dry some Fish tank gravel works well to

Systemic grandules for gnats?

You could use those. I personally use mosquito bits when all use fails. They work great for fungus gnats. I would still recommend letting your plants dry out before applying.

Vermiculite holds water though.

It does. But I haven't had an issue so far. Some of the other viewers mentioned using pea gravel or maybe decorative marbles. I do have decorative rocks in my yucca plant that work well.
