I just wanted you to know that you are a precious resource for People of Color. I live in Las Vegas and virtually every derm gives general non specific advice, they're afraid to use laser therapy because it effects dark skin differently. All they do is prescribe retinol / hydroquinone. I had to learn to prevent and extract on my own and at 32 I love to see that younger men have resources, tools and products they can buy.

I'm so excited to watch this! I've been using my bf as a Guinea pig this quarantine since he gets ingrown hairs on his neck and has a damaged skin barrier in his t-zone/eye brows that flairs up from weather changes. He also has the opposite skin type as me and prefers different skincare textures. So we get to try lots of different products and see what works for both of us. He was so amazed how he responded to benzoyl peroxide face wash. I didn't tell him it would help with his ingrown hairs, but noticed it all on his own! It was fun to tell him it was the hope all along.

As someone who had PFB I was required to shave daily for work. After multiple times of being told you have to train the hair I did some research on hair( given that there wasn't much literature out on PFB in black people I had to become creative and study each topic individually like how some hairs have cores and some are hollow) I definitely tried magic shave and most available products on the market finally settling on, no longer shaving with a razor, and started using trimmers. I pretty much had to figure it out on my own, but like the doctor stated you have to extract the sharpened end from the skin but when you trim generally as long your blade isn't zero-gapped it should leave enough stubble to grow, despite how close the trimmer is. The electric shaver is typically too close to the skin to effectively treat the underlying issue. Additionally, I use a sugar scrub to exfoliate the skin
@6ixlxrd3 жыл бұрын
@@novareality I’m thinking about saving money for that electric hair removal thing. I’ve tried everything as well, from various types of razors (single-blade, electric, trimmers), magic shave, waxing, medicated creams, etc. Pretty much nothing works. And letting my beard grow out isn’t really an option since I also have to shave every other day for work.
@novareality3 жыл бұрын
@@6ixlxrd have you tried barber grade trimmers? I found that I had to trim 3 times a day with an electric trimmer. I use Andis products I would recommend taking a look at their corded and cordless trimmers and a brush to get those topical externally embedded hairs out of the skin with minimal irritation. laser hair removal is an option but I managed my condition without it. Also witch hazel is a great skin toner that might tighten up the pores and Make the hairs stand straighter after being cut.
@6ixlxrd3 жыл бұрын
@@novareality I haven’t, but I’m willing to give it a try. I’ve been keeping my skin moisturized using an aloe skin cream meant to heal, and I’ve tried razor-bump products, but none of it seems to be doing anything. Even the post-shave/after-shave stuff is useless. Thanks for the recommendation bro. Ever since my beard and facial hair started growing in, this has been stressful. Only comfort is that I can wear a mask without looking weird.
@novareality3 жыл бұрын
@@6ixlxrd yeah I remember all those products I also found them ineffective. My big brother told me that it looked like the back of a Nestle crunch bar on my face. It was so uncomfortable I've contemplated using a wire rust brush (do not recommend the wire brush!) Keeping the hair tips out of the skin helped my skin heal underneath and now I have clear skin as long as I don't razor shave. My supervisors and their supervisors noticed the change as well it was as if I found the cure to it. It's tough at first because when the skin starts healing it's going to itch really bad. I recommend getting a doctor's note to excuse you from shaving where you let it grow out to treat the underlying skin. Untreated ingrown hairs can lead to related complications like staph infections, permanent scarring and other things that would make self- treatment no longer a viable option. Also your results may vary all I am doing is telling you about what I did to clear up my skin, which was minimally invasive. I am not a licensed medical professional nor do I know if trimming is a clinically tested peer reviewed study. I recommend doing your own research and figuring out your type And makeup of the hairs in the areas of discomfort. And I wish you luck on your journey

I’ve used Curology (It does not have salicylic acid in it) since March 2022 that product has worked really well, but it did NOTHING for that sore and stubborn ingrown hair. I grabbed my acne treatment from MK because that’s the only product I had with salicylic acid in it and that worked the bump was literally mildly deflated by the morning and has been healing every since. I love your videos so much, and I appreciate your focus on skin of color! It’s definitely needed in the dermatology field. I’d definitely love to see a video on body acne and products to treat it, as well as how to properly moisturize the body. I get these tiny bumps on my back and when I scratch them a seed comes out. It looks like a small sesame seed, it’s very hard and typically white or a more clear yellow, sometimes there’s also a really thin hair running long ways in the “seed” - I think they’re sebum/keratin plugs, but I’m not sure. I also get what I believe to be cystic acne on the back as well. I haven’t really found anything that lessens the frequency of both types of bumps occurring. I also find it is extremely hard to find a lotion for my back that doesn’t cause more cystic acne. Additionally the hyperpigmentation is super hard to try to treat and live with. I’m hopeful your expertise will be helpful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and helping so many with your videos ☺️

The best thing to keep razor burns at bay is, shave in freezing cold water, a decent shave soap with her brush, and a razor that has less blades. Unlike these 5 blades crap that you buy in the market. The problem with shave gels are the ingredients that get included. I dumped my five blade razors and gels/foams years ago. I use the old vintage 1977 Gillette Contour razor and I use a good shaving soap to replace my foams can spray etc

What I discovered long ago when I was modeling full time is to put a clear deodorant on before putting on a body oil. I use coconut nut oil. I have zero hair bumps. I’ve been doing this since I was 18 and I’m 42 now. Full disclosure: Oddly? Or, not?🤷🏾♀️ My family doesn’t have curly hair anywhere but on our heads. The rest of the body hair just sort of bends at the end/has a slight wave. Really strange when talking to several past white female coworkers about girl stuff and shaving/waxing methods came up…I’d often find out that most of them had shave bumps and hated shaving.🤷🏾♀️
