In today’s video we are going to war with the starlings the dirty birds that make a mess of the place every year. We setup a banger which is our main battle plan against the starlings to keep them out of the yard. We also explain a few things about the birds and bit about the wildlife
Hope you enjoy, any questions hit me down in the comments below, thanks for watching! G'Luck

Hi Phil. In my Yard are also Starlings. But never ever that Mount of this little Bast.... As I started my Holstein Bulls Operation the Problem became bigger and bigger, as like as in your Yard. My Veterinaryan told me to put some cheap LED Bulps into the Shed's with a electric clock to shine all night Long and to feed the Cattle by Coffee Time (16:00 roundabout). Bulls not really Day active If they good the Chance to. My Bulls eating all night Long and are sleeping Most of 70% of the Day. Starlings no longer a real issue. There's never really the Chance to eat and crap cause some Bulls searching for the rests and if they get fed. Everywhere Bulls at the Barrier. Then it gets dark and Starlings going up in the trees. Try feeding later and put night Lights in the Shed's. Greetings from a Holstein Beef Cattle Farmer from Western Germany

Only way we solved the issue of bird dirt in the feed was stop using the Keenan. Threw silage out in blocks and scattered ration ontop… take the shoulders out of ya going shaken out buckets of meal again… but they weren’t long disappearing about a month and the yard was as good as clear

I guess the small birds at the spilt grain are Chaffinch, Greenfinch and Goldfinches may be some House Sparrows there too. Your over grown hedges are there safe heaven for nests and food. The Tits family don't generally eat seeds. I agree the Sterling's are a right pest. I grown Swedes to feed the sheep Phil and the weeds that grow in the swede field . Feeds thousands of wee finches , redpolls and Siskins. Nice to do a bit for the wee birds. 👍🏼have a good Christmas down there from up here in Ballymena

Maybe a stupid idea but would it be possible to lay your hands on a captive bred Kestrel or even a barn owl, set up a roost box in the castle. Would help keep the mice down too.

I worked on a dairy farm when I was younger. We had a local learning difficulties guy who would spent all day every day walking around the units letting off a 22 blank firing pistol, it seemed to work as he was on the move all the time.

Those scare cannons are terrible for neighbours. Best to discuss their use with your neighbour and just use them for 15 minutes in the morning and at night. A neighbour of mine uses one constantly on his vacant block. He lives 40 ks away and doesn't give a crap.

Putting up owl boxes might help eventually. I also wonder what the impact of going too hard on the birds would be with insects. You can't really push one thing down in nature and it not pop up something else in its place

Merry Christmas Phil and family, bangers are only effective when used in conjunction with shooting, as you can't shoot starlings I can't see it working. The other most common birds in and around yards are usually sparrows which I expect are the flocks of small birds you are seeing. Look up China's attempt to wipe out sparrows in 1958,( not drawing a comparison with your banger 😄) but not the result they hoped for.

I for once feel like an expert here as i have been tormented with starlings in my sheds for years, i tried the predator bird speakers, balloons and kites and owls and a flashing light that made my parlour look like a night club.i now just the odd day put the bird caller on as they just get beaver and use to things but the best ive found is i bought a powerful blue laser on ebay for 100 quid carry that with me and they scarper better than if i made a loud bang or anything.god i hate them so much, i probably scared mine off to go to your place, sorry 😂

Get yourself some wood-peckers Starlings hate them, no idea why but the pechers moved into a wood behind our place and we only have a few left, I looked it up and it turns out Starlings do not like being around them, but your right they are a bloody pest as they are always in such high numbers

Phil I know the dogs would hate it but a half dozen cats about the yard would be a help! In Australia 2 million wild birds are killed a day by domestic house cats apparently- no clue who counted them. Maybe a second banger on the other side of the farm too on the new stone pad? Ye could also put chicken wire up on some of your shed entrances and over doorways instead of sheet tin and keep them closed. The more difficult it is to fly in and out the more cautious they will be. A very merry Christmas to you and your family!

We are also plagued with starlings-year round. They are a non-native invasive species over here. Somebody released a handful during a Shakespeare reading in New York and now we have billions. They have displaced the native bird species and do so much damage around farms. Kevin from Nova Scotia--"across the pond"

The RSPB has Starling's down as under threat and in the "red" zone. I cannot understand this because there millions of the bastard things here in North Yorkshire. They are an absolute pest, as bad as rats and pigeons. Bird netting works for a while but it can be a pain for access in and out of a building. It can rip too. The damage they do, filth they leave and risk to animal and human health is ignored by dogooder twitchers!
