You will hear coaches ask players to snap their wrists, or that they don't have the snap in their shot. This is what they are talking about. In this video we show you how to use the stick and a snap motion to generate more power in your shot.

Jeremy you're alright for a Leafs fan. Ha ha, but seriously your tips are very helpful. My shots have improved drastically since I started watching your videos. Even though I only play hockey for fun, it's nice to improve my game. Keep up the good work!

I've been playing hockey(on ice,atleast) since November. I'm at a point now where I'm consistently getting compliments on my shot power(we won't talk about accuracy). I watched this video and it opened my eyes because I never even thought about the 'shaft-in-front-of-blade' thing. So simple. Can't wait to work on that this week. Great video as always, Jeremy!

Watching the slow-mo section at 2:20 perfectly captured the exact phase of the shot I've been trying to figure out; the timing of the wrist-roll vs the snap. Awesome vid!

I found great success teaching the first method, and then this method to squirt level players. It's hard for them to grasp the entire shot all at once, and they get really excited if they can lift the puck using the first method, then we build on that skill with this one.

Thanks so much! I'm wondering how long/often I should do these exercises? My shots are very inconsistent like sometimes I go bar down and sometimes I hit the goalie in the chest. Thanks!

Geremy - this is just awesome. Thank you for breaking it in parts! Someone taught me a while back to drive the puck closer to the body instead of just on a straight line. That seems like allow to push harder by the bottom hand. He also asked me to do a drill when he put an object just in front of a puck (when the puck it taken back), so the only way to shoot the puck was to get it closer to my feet first and then drive it straight before the puck released. Your thoughts on this ?

Honestly i used to have the same exact problem. One VITAL reason could be because you don't look at the net when you shoot. A lot of players only look at their stick when they shoot and don't look at the net. I recommend taking a quick glance at the stick to make sure you have good form and then look to the area of the net you want to shoot. What that does is by looking at the area of the net you want to shoot, it points your body to that area and most of the time makes your stick go to that area. Second is it is really frustrating at first but you really have to point your toe and force your body to shoot there. 1) Glance at the stick for a quick second and then look at where you want to shoot in the net. 2) Shoot and point your toe and body to that part of the net.

Jeremy, when you train in your shoes, are you using a shorter stick than you use in the ice?
@CoachJeremy
@CoachJeremy 9 жыл бұрын
To be honest I usually have a few sticks that are each different lengths by about an inch. I just switch between them all so I am comfortable in a lot of different situations. If you are training a lot off the ice I would recommend a stick that is a little shorter.

Coach Jeremy, I'm not much of a strong person... Does having more muscle mass improve shots?

Yes it does, technique is most important though. Once you have really good technique then it helps even more to be strong.

How much flex does your hockey stick have in the video?
@alanatkinsmith2158
@alanatkinsmith2158 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tips, but I still have a question for you. I have 2 composite sticks that have good flex, but I still want to use them on the ice. When I shoot on my driveway, I use an old wooden stick that I've had for a long time. Would you still recommend getting a cheap composite stick for playing street hockey, would you recommend for me to use my secondary stick I sometimes use on the ice, or would you just recommend for me to stay with the wooden stick?

holy shit, so almost all wrist shots done by beginners is wrong, cause its called a WRIST shot cause of that last wrist flick, so you basically use your wrist to pickup the puck, carry it in the air, and then flicking it to give it that extra push, my mind is blown
