do the shard chance boosts (the ones where you have to do stuff like join the group and turn on notifs) actually do anything or are they just engagement farming

It's just counting the times you play and on the 5th. A shard will appear. There could've been a mistake in the code with the shard booster but since the stock is very low for the other items. It just works out to be guaranteed to be always on the 5th. Everyone just accepted that. Playing from 0 feels like a lot. Doing it daily wasn't that bad.
