Helpful. I used to abhor Delta 737s because I felt the window was too low, I remember having to bend my neck down to look out. The ones with new or renovated interiors seem to better. Not sure if the floor was lowered or that’s an effect of the different sculpting around windows. I used to seek flights on the A320s, 757s, and Ejets for this reason.. miss the days when 757s had huge seat pitch, the Comfort+ section now has slightly less pitch than the ex-TW birds in Main (till 2015 or so).

Howdy, awesome and useful video as always Mark! I did this with AA, and was able to sit on the single aisle A side of the ERJ-145 from LEX-PHL, then was able to nab the last row, left side, window (my favorite seat) on the A319 from BOS-CLT! I was happy with being middle of the plane, window on the 737-800 from PHL-BOS, and the best part, a complementary upgrade to first class on the CRJ-900 from CLT-LEX due to weight and balance issues!😸😻😸

Having completed flight school in college, I fully understand the weight/balance issue. But it still amazes me that the weight of one person would really make that much difference considering the size and weight of a jetliner (not to mention the fact that people are constantly moving around on theplane during flight).

Same here and I've got my seats selected for my flights in both June AND September 🙂 I'm not taking any chance of ending up in a non-aisle seat 🙂 I love the Delta app and their website as it's all very intuitive, even for someone who's 60+ years old 🙂

I try to upgrade but no luck there is no available seat to the comfort area but i can move to the main cabin near the window!! what do you think my seat is good seat?

Hi. I’m flying from New York to Tel Aviv next week with a regular cabin fair. When I go to seat selección there are no more seats available. They only offer seats with an extra charge. Could you try to explain why? Thanks

I'd say you probably purchased the Delta Basic Economy seat (or an equivalent of that level). That level of ticket does not allow for seat selection prior to arrival, and sometimes only at actual boarding. What you save in money you give up in convenience of options, like seat selection. The airlines wait until the last minute to see if they can get someone to PAY for the seat selection, and when that is exhausted the Basic Economy seats are assigned. If it were me on that long of a flight, I'd spring for the extra $$$ and get a seat that I would find comfortable (in my case, NOT a middle seat, and preferably an aisle).

Hey Mark, I’m flying on a Delta Boeing 757-300. My seats are 15D & 15F. The window seat, 15F, does not have a seat in front of it. Where is the tv screen at? This is an exit row and has a little more legroom. Do you think this is a good seat? Thanks, James

I think there is a seat in front of it. You are probably seeing the break between Economy and Economy Plus. Flying United? Check your specific flight in SeatGuru for more details.

If I have two tickets in economy, and i check in early, how good of a chance do I have at sitting together?

I guess that would be about a 50/50 chance. However, if you ask nicely, you might be able to change seats after take off. I had it happen to me once, where a couple wanted to sit together and I had no problem changing from one aisle seat to another. Mind you, I didn't have to, but they asked me nicely and the other seat wasn't better or worse than the one I had.

Please explain what the “X” means in seat selection? Is that seat being held for some reason? Especially since the COVID seating has been lifted

It could be any number of reasons. Maybe something as simple as some people were requesting the seats at the time I was using the app but had not completed the transaction yet.

I think they’re being held for travelers with status. Either to select themselves or be upgraded to by a gate agent. When I had low status, I noticed that I’d usually get pre-assigned one of the “x” seats when check-in window opens.

The seats with stars are premium and cost additional money. If your flight is really full, there may not be a lot of free seats available. Airlines are going through a tough time right now, cancelling flights, overbooking, so there simply might not be a lot available.

You may have chosen a basic economy seat. In that case, the airline will assign your seat for you--you have no choice. Mark's advice is for those fare classes that actually allow the passenger to select seats. Here's a summary of Delta's fare classes: cwsi.net/delta.htm
