Thanks heap. I've had to do this once before and used your technique, but I couldn't remember the belt configuration, so your diagram was a great help.

Wow Murray! You’re a mechanic as well as all the other work-tasks you have to do on your backyard! Bird management is probably a breeze compared to all the other jobs you need to do as a farmer!👍R

I try and think in a way I call "lazy-smart" - asking "what's the easiest way to accomplish my goal with the least cost, effort and difficulty". I try and apply it across everything I do and here a simple piece of string means I don't need someone else to put weight on the spring/tension arm. Honestly, asking yourself "what question would a five-year-old ask when you tell them the problem" is really useful whenever you're faced with difficulties. I remember when an engineering student at uni was looking very troubled, perplexed even. I asked him what was on his mind and he said I couldn't help him. I asked again and he said his solution for a tutorial problem didn't work with negative numbers. I thought for a while - like a five-year-old - and asked him if it *had* to work with negative numbers. He looked sceptical at first and then the realization that it would never have negative inputs dawned on him. (Hey, I didn't know that when I asked the question but apparently it could never have happened.) He immediately cheered up.. And I cheered up a mate! Lazy-smart. Think about something, think what stuff you could have on hand that may help, figure out an easier way than the one that first occurred to you. How would a five-year-old approach the problem of putting weight/tension on a spring? You could tow the mower back to the shed and get someone to keep weight on the spring for you. Or just carry enough twine on your mower to do it yourself... I like "lazy-smart"...😁

very helpful mate, thanks. Exactly what i needed to know yesterday instead of the hour wrestle it took me last time. Any tips for the deck belt? Ive tried forcing it around the back pulley with a large screwdriver, works but perhaps not ideal
@mybackyard363 ай бұрын
Well, I hope I help you out next time! 😁 Don't forget the length of cord. And it's handy for adjusting the steering too. Over 3000 engine hours and I've not had a deck belt go. I was told the deck belt went much more often than the drive belt but not for me. I hope to do a video in a month or so about the easy way to adjust the steering - it might need it again by then - and I'll do videos about other issues I find solutions to but the deck belt hasn't some up once yet. (I may have just given that the kiss of death...) I really appreciate the feedback and sorry I couldn't help you with the deck belt. Cheers Jason 👍😁👍

@@mybackyard36 no, you did help me out this time, i threw the belt Monday, went inside, found your vid then it was fixed in 5mins, so thanks ! What i meant was, the last time i fixed it myself it took ages wrestling with it... Your solution is excellent and helped me out greatly. I now have the cord on the mower. I've thrown deck belts a few times, mainly from picking up unseen sticks, same reason my drive belt came off. Its a lot harder to release the spring tension so not sure the cord method will work cheers

@@jasonodonnell1794 Sweet!!! I'm glad that worked out so well for you. It took me and a mate half an hour to get it back on the first time - not counting towing it back to the shed - and I knew I had to sort something out for when it happened again. When you're trying to get the bloody belt on it keeps coming off the pulleys unless there is weight on the spring...there had to be a simple solution. The moment I have issues with the deck belt - and come up with a solution if I can - I'll put another video up. Cheers Jas 😁

Hi Murray, may I ask how large your property is, just curious?

Pretty small - about...12 acres of useful stuff and about 20 behind the treeline.
