Great job, Destin!!! Your picture came out perfect! 👏👏👏🤓 I love your enthusiasm and your video was a joy to watch! Your photo showing all phases of the eclipse looks worthy of winning an award. You really should enter it into a photography contest! Also it helps that you made KZbin videos that definitively prove you captured the image using a camera and it's not photoshopped or created using AI.

Destin, Thanks so much for offering this to non-Patrons. I (47m) was not shy about my emotions watching the revealing of the photo and am thrilled to be able to add it to my office wall - ordered a metal one for myself. And, because I chose poorly and was just north and east of Buffalo w/ my niece (7) for a VERY cloudy eclipse I also ordered a paper 12x12 for her to hang in her bedroom. She was very upset that we didn't get a decent view and her brother (who was further south and west of us with my BIL) did, but I will forever remember the experience with her and my sister. Your channel has inspired a number of gifts to my nieces and nephew over the years and they're turning out to be proper science/space nerds like me. All the best to you and your family.

Destin, As an avid film photographer that came from digital and missed out on my late uncles knowledge of decades, worth the film, photography knowledge I really enjoy everything you do and put out there. I develop all my film in my bathroom. I scan multiple ways as well as looking into modifying cameras from , really awesome engineers who have made amazing things so that we could bring back things such as Polaroids to the RZ 67 for example. I enjoyed your series that you did at the Kodak factory. I thought that was amazing and I am very impressed with your ability to get all of this done, especially on a piece of slide film, knowing how finicky they are. Thanks for everything and I’m looking forward to always seeing your content. If you ever find yourself in the central North Carolina area you’re more than welcome to swing through for some fun and science. Macro(6-7mm on one 35mm slide) on film is hard and I’m working on that but would love to show you some things in progress. Keep at it. -ae

Thanks to your videos I got my parents and my father in law all to road trip to Arkansas from Birmingham with me and my 5 year old. It was a great memory for all of us that we got to share with my son / their grandson. I already ordered 3 of the metal prints last night after the patreon post hit. One for my parents, one for my father in law and one for my son. When we see that picture it immediately takes us back to that moment of seeing totality together. Thank you for what you do, both for science and the Kingdom.

Thanks Destin, for making this available. During the eclipse, i wondered how i can document (scrapbook) the progression.. and yes i do have photos, but this is a really cool way to document the 4 hours and 23 minutes of totality, (central Texas) which by the way, was not long enough to oooh and awe over the whole event.. 3+ months after the fact, is when i found this.. I'm not a subscriber to your channel, but i know your out there, and occasionally binge watch your channel.. just found out about your second channel. Also love NDQ.. i listen to those every time. I'm getting into photography recently and the fact you captured the photo using analog means is amazing! i doubt you're the first ever to do this, but you definitely are the first in this current decade. I want to get to the point of having unique and special ideas like this. I decided to get aerial photos during the eclipse and i got a shot that shows the curvature of the shadow and the extreme contrast between the eclipse, dark area and the bright sky makes for an amazing image. so far one of my most proud shots. Thanks for being the reason i got into photography.

Still can't get over how good that photo is and how much joy there was in making it. Would it be possible to get another video going deeper on the technical details of how you did it? How did you calculate the exposure schedule for the multiple images? What filters and other settings did you use? What other little challenges did you have to overcome to get it right when it really mattered? This is something I'd really like to try myself someday (Iceland and Spain/Morocco both coming up in the next few years!) so any insights on how to do it well would be amazing!

With you also being the reason I got into shooting film, I can confidently say this photo has replaced the one from 2017. I printed the full image on letter paper (8.5"x11", the image ended up 7.75"x10.26"), but it doesn't look nearly as striking as the long poster. My emotion from the video was a mix of memories of my family's trip to the path of totality after missing out in 2017, jealousy of your clear skies (we had partial cloud cover that essentially ruined the second half of the partial prior to totality, but not enough to mess up totality), regret for not being more aware of my surroundings during the last moments before/after totality, and sadness that it's likely I'll never be able to experience it again. I'm so glad I we went and got to experience what we did. It just went by so quickly.

I have a suggestion for anyone trying to figure out the mystery objects. (I believe they are satellites, but have no idea which ones.) If you use trig to figure out how far away they are from the camera, keep in mind that's NOT the altitude above ground unless the sun was directly overhead. The satellite's altitude above ground will be less than its distance from the camera.

Thanks for the photo, was good benefit for being a patron. One item however, I would have loved to see the availability of a metal print but cropped from full frame like you show (2.35:1 or whatever that aspect ratio is) i.e. to remove the excess space. Yes I can print it out on my printer here, however I don't have the ability to print out on higher quality materials. Anyway, thanks for the shot. :)

You can take the file to any print shop, and they can do it for you. just search for a good shop in your area and give them some business. I assume the license he gave is only restricting the sale and profit of the image. also it only seems right that as Destin put so much effort and love into this photo that no one does any distribution of it. if people are interested point them to where they can get one for themselves.

Definitely agree with the emotions of the video, I was in tears multiple times. I can’t pinpoint exactly why but my guess is a) the solar eclipse itself being a beautiful wonder b) feeling like I was apart of the photo process as I could feel and understand your infectious excitement and awe

Good on you for not giving this out for free. I saw the video where you take that picture and immediately thought about asking for it, but stopped myself since this was obviously a thing you are very passionate about. The picture really looks amazing, and the story behind it is even more so. Giving this out to your patrons on Patreon, and now offering the physical version too, is a great way to share it without cheapening it. If anything, this just made me want to do something similar myself.

Destin, your video from the 2017 eclipse made me realize that I had to experience totality in 2024. Especially since it was going to be within driving distance. Due to your video I took my son up to northern Vermont and had an absolutely spectacular view of totality and is the coolest thing I've ever seen. Thank you for that. That video, and the one from this year, are my two favorite ones you've ever done, and you've done a lot of great ones. Thanks again.

Wait though, so the prints are available to non patrons and the highest res on is available to patrons? Do the prints capture all the detail from the high res version or are they a lower res version? Did they use the high res version but then they couldn't print in that high of resolution? I don't see resolution details or specific mention of this

I loved that video and just commented on it. The eclipse was very emotional for me and my son. We watched the 2024 eclipse in Oberlin, OH. We got to watch the 2017 eclipse at his house in South Carolina.

Just received both of the metal prints in the mail today, the timelapse 2024 eclipse AND the 2017 ISS solar transit. They look awesome. Thank you so much for making them available. How can I share a photo of their new home?

Never clicked "add to cart" so fast. Love the way it looks as if on ectachrome. I was in Dallas for the eclipse and the weather finally cooperated. So cool
