I like to remember that 25-100hz spans 3 octaves and 4k-16k also spans 3 octaves. Not only that, but the wavelength from the low end is super long. This keeps me in the mindset that the lows are impacted by very small moves way more intensely than anything up to. A lot of low end is getting that real low weight and saturating and finding some 200-400 to just move up a bit to hear those lower harmonics. Depends on the key and notes being played. I also think that you can really sit the bass well around 50-80, and the kick around 30 and around 100 and get some good separation, but definitely sidechaining the kick to duck the bass enough to make it feel separate helps. Phase is honestly the biggest killer of low end in my experience 🤪

The numbers don't matter cuz every kick and 808 is different, but I feel you regardless

@@django3108yeah, I’m usually persnickety about that too, and I went a bit overboard. My original intention was to convey the hertz per octave ratio and wavelengths make low end the most sensitive region for processing it.

In FL Studio there's a device called Peak Controller that's basically an envelope follower that can be linked to any parameter on any device and modulate that parameter based on the incoming audio. I'll insert it on a kick, which can then duck specifically the low frequencies. I do the same thing with a snare and midrange instruments. Waves Curves Equator can do a similar thing where it ducks specifically the frequencies present in the sidechain.

I have watched pretty much every Lu Diaz video on You Tube. I love how he gives such "GEMS" on mixing. He is my favorite mixing instructor. I just love how he explains the "How & Why" of what he uses on certain parts of a mix. I still watch all his "WAVES" mini-master classes did some years back. Just a great mixer and teacher.
