The event still works as of today. I just got the orange kill effect 10 minutes ago. Just to note, you need to turn up your graphics in order to see the air balloon.

For me i did everything right, got the oranges, summoned the airplane, and it destroyed the tower, but after that the orange just despawned as soon as it came and i couldnt hit it so I didnt get the effect, they should make it so that u dont need to hit it, just in case ur game bugs
