Until recently, I always had a fear that asking for too much would cause them to rescind the offer and give it to someone else asking for less! This is reassuring to know that pretty much everybody else negotiates and we, as Black women, should too! Thanks for these tips!!

Great points. Another strategy is to ask for a guaranteed bonus or I have seen multi-part sign-on bonuses.

Most employers will not give guaranteed bonuses for new hires unless it’s a very high management position and even those will generally have what we call “clawback“ clauses. The tips I provide are geared towards lower and middle employees because they are the ones who usually get the short end of the stick.
