This video is about how to get the Scandinavian look in your home using Bona white timber floor stain. Scandinavia seems to be the buzz word for design these days, whether it is the classic design of Arne Jacobsen's or the bold prints of Marimekko you just cant seem to get away from it. The key tenants of the style are characterised by simplicity and functionality, with a muted colour palate and ease of use. A key element of that Scandinavian interior design that you will recognise from all those great murder mysteries on BBC4 is a white washed timber finish. The good news is that your wooden floors are an easy way to create this feel in your home.
This video is of a clients home where they asked for this very look.
So we called Floor Design over in Kylemore Park North. After going over the project with them we went with their recommendation of Bona White to stain and Bona Traffic HD to seal. We sanded back the oak floors throughout all the lower levels of the house to get back to its natural state and remove all traces of the old yellow Varnish. We then applied two coats of the bona White leaving about two hours between coats.
Then we sealed the floor with with two coats of Bona High Traffic HD, this takes little longer between coats for this to be touch dry and ready for the next coat. As you can se form the pictures the original yellow hue to the timber has been removed and replaced by the whiter look in the Scandinavian style, I not sure that the pictures do the change in this space justice because the new colour on the floor has transformed the entire space because the floor is such a big part of the overall feel of the room.
This is also a great modern lacquer which is can take full traffic within 12 hours of the final coat and none of that old toxic smell that old varnished used to leave around for weeks. Of course this is not the only option out there if you want to get the Scandinavian feel but if you like the look of it, the the Bona White is a very versatile whitewash that works with most species of timber and is very easy to work with. If you are interested in the full Bona range why not call Floor Design directly and one of their specialists can go through the full range of Bona products available in Ireland today.
