I feel like this might reduce the value of the verification badge. Anyone can pay a monthly subscription to get a blue tick mark next to their profile. Earlier you needed to put in the work and grow your account to go through the verification process.

Thank you for this Adam. This is a great explanation. I think this is actually a good thing simply to discourage the scammers and impersonators. It has gotten so out of hand. But Meta definitely needs to keep artists/bands in mind. I work with some big KZbinrs who work very hard to keep their actual name private, because fans will literally find their address and show up at their front door. Hopefully they are matching by the account full name and not the artist name or handle. I use an artist name on all my social accounts. But I think this is brilliant! Too many hackers stealing and creating fake accounts. On another note, I have seen angry posts by certain influencers and artist getting mad because they worked really hard to get the blue check mark. There’s truth on that. They feel robbed. It would be cool to give them a different colored check mark for their efforts and blue for those paying for it!
