PSA: you only need 2 hours, not 10, you NEED to PLAY, as in chat and interact with the world and other players, if you're idling or too mute, the timer won't count, my friend made a temp password for me to play in his account while he was at work, it only needed about 2:40 hours playing around with Murder Mystery and Cards against humanity to get working

I've been looking up a lot of videos on VRChat and avatars lately, and there's some *really* cool stuff out there. It is my opinion that new people should start with something pretty basic at first, just so that they know for sure that they have a working avatar in case there are any events they hear about which they want to go to at the last minute. But one of the cooler things I've seen in my search for VRChat knowledge, was some kind of advanced system for making the legs work on a non-humanoid avatar. In the video I saw this, someone got a spider (they called it an Arachne, I think) avatar to walk around with a lot of meticulous messing around with bones (the animating term) and some kind of officially supported walking script thing. Apparently, the script allows the avatar to dynamically take steps when given basic directional commands like you would do with the WASD keys in a game. It looked awesome, but the more legs your avatar has, the more tedious the job of setting it all up correctly. I've seen some really neat things done with what mostly amounts to recoloring, to make an avatar of one thing look drastically different. Kind of like how a skilled makeup artist can make someone's face look like a totally different person, or a different age, or even like an alien or monster. There's are variants of an avatar originally modeled after Nanachi, a humanoid shaped animal or monster character from an anime. Canonically, the character's gender is left as ambiguous. (No one knows what it is, and they look animal-like and androgynous enough that it remains unclear. Which seems to be a design choice. Although there are some poorly translated dubs that use gendered pronouns.) But I digress! I really wanted to say that the Nanachi avatar seems like an excellent base for creating a wide variety of furry avatars, so long as you don't mind looking like a cute (young?) little anime furry character. Nanachi seems to have long rabbit like ears, but the teeth also have canines. And enough people have made modifications to the mesh of their own version, that I honestly can't remember if they canonically even have a tail, as I've seen a lot of different tail types on them. There are plenty of different avatars that might appeal to furries though. I can not even list the ones I've seen, nevermind list all those that exist. Go look at them yourself. Go on, shoo!

No it's not. I had a friend help me to pick out a free big cat furry AV. We got it done in a short time. Granted it is not a custom furry. If you want it to be a unique furry that is yours alone, best to pay the money to have someone skilled to make it for you.

im not a 3d modelling expert or too experienced in this field but imo some of the smoothest and most well done vrchat models are the furry ones imo, the movement of the ears, mouth, arms, fluff, etc. flow really well and have amazing rigs one of the many ways that the fandom is full of talented and passionate people !!

Currently working on a game in Unity, and holy cow, that Dynamic Bone asset looks amazing! Might need to work that into my project. Random tip if you are working with avatars in Unity much - if you hold down the right mouse button, you can use WASD to move around the scene and it's way more intuitive than some of the other methods!

Heya! If you want to use PsyBones (the stuff that makes the ears or tail jiggles like the ones in Pocari's avatar) and on Oculus Quest 2, there is a limit of 8. (If on PCVR, there isn't a limit I know of) Do one PsyBone for each ear at the beginning. Then, do all of the tail. The PsyBones are included in the SDK. So all you have to do is type in PsyBones in components at the bottom of the inspector and click the first one. Finally, adjust it to your liking! Hoped this helped!

@@FenrirPlays-z9r Hm, It's been awhile since I've looked at the eye and face tracking market. Though, I have heard that the new Meta Quest Pro has eye tracking and I think some mouth tracking. Also, there's a Vive headset that supports eye tracking. Though, its overpriced. I think the best option would either be the Meta Quest Pro or just some attachments that support it.

Tip for anyone DIYing their fursona; use blender and whatever you do, don’t use squares. Use 3d circles and use the sculpting tool to achieve the shape you want and learn how to mirror shapes, it will make your life SO much easier.

Even in 2023 where the unity version has changed a lot, and the SDK, this is still a great tutorial. I watched this entire thing even though I know how to do all of this stuff by myself and even do custom stuff involving taking an FBX, doing facial gestures, toggles and outfit switches :3 I enjoyed this a lot tho!
