I am learning how to manicure my wife's nails. My wife is bedridden and unable to use her hands. I enjoy painting my wife's nails. I have purchased many different types of nail polish. I have a question, I just purchased a nail dryer a SHANY Cosmetic Salon Expert 54W Dual Hand Professional Nail Dryer. I have not received the nail dryer yet. My question to you is how do I tell what setting do I use, fan or lights?

+Edmund spencer I am sure this reply is a bit late, but for the nail dryer you want to use the fan setting to dry any regular nail polish, these 'regular' polishes are usually called a nail Lacquer, nail varnish, nail enamel, or nail polish. Now, i don't know exactly what kind of 'light setting' you are referring to, but The light setting is usually used for gel polishes, these gel polishes will come with special instructions on how to use the light to dry them, hope this helped :)

Very professional and great detail. The massage was very relaxing to watch. You give you clients good care. Q would you have some ideas why my nails are splitting? Pealing too.
@nathansidlauskas39688 жыл бұрын
If it is on the nail plate then I recommend you use a cuticle knife. Try and use this professionally or go to a salon as it is very easy to cut yourself with and always use it wet usually with cuticle oil. This will make your nail plate smooth and will remove any excess peeling. You could strengthen your nails by filing to keep them nice and even; you can also harden them by going to your local salon and asking for nail hardener. Some people can't always grow long strong nails naturally just like hair. But always maintain a healthy diet. I hope I helped :)

She isn't cutting the cuticle, she's trimming dead eponychium. People falsely refer to the eponychium as cuticle...
@varm88788 жыл бұрын
Gillian Wills The eponychium should NEVER be cut, clipped or trimmed. The dry, hard skin is a result of clipping in the first place as the body recognises cut skin as damaged tissue so will regenerate harder, tougher skin to defend itself. The more you clip, the harder the skin gets. You can only resolve the issue by moisturising regularly with a top quality nail oil. OPI's Avoplex is outstanding for repairing the eponychium :-)

@varm88788 жыл бұрын
A number of flaws in this demonstration unfortunately. Cap the nails, she says. Shame she didn't follow her own advice! Most importantly though she clipped the eponychium (the skin on your finger around the base of the nail plate), you should never do this as you are actually inflicting more damage causing the skin to harden again, resulting in a vicious circle of clipping/hardening/clipping/hardening. The more you clip, the harder the skin will become around the nail! The eponychium is often referred to as the cuticle, which is incorrect. The cuticle is the very fine layer of skin actually on the nail itself, this can be softened and removed or softened and gently pushed back but only to the eponychium - never pushed underneath as you may damage the nail matrix. You should never break the seal between the nail plate and the eponychium, the cuticle is a shedding of skin from this seal as your nail grows, so is dead skin. The eponychium is living tissue on your finger! The only way to resolve the issue of a hardened eponychium is to moisturise, moisturise, moisturise. Never, ever clip.

Can I tell you how much I appreciate this info & someone that knows what they are talking about?! I have been trimming my hangnails (which I assume is okay) but then also the dry feeling sides nearby the hangnails for years. It has become such a habit because it hardens & I feel it all the time & repeat. I have just made a commitment to myself that I will not nip that skin anymore & just keep moisturizing with my CND Solar Oil and stop the revolving door of madness! Any other advice you can offer in this respect I will be grateful!♥ Also, thank you for explaining in detail the difference between cuticle & eponychium as that is a very common misconception & you see here that she is misinforming viewers.

Not true. The skin does not harden. Been doing this for decades and eponychium is the same and not like you preach. I've heard this fear-mongering for decades and never seen it actually happen to anyone.
