A little QoL tip for the farming of shards: If you hit Z you dont see the filter anymore, but if you hover over the place where an item is on the floor it still pops up for you to pick up. because shards are dropped all at the same location you can just let you mouse on the same spot and spamclick to loot the splinters

I know this video was made 2 months ago, but I just found this video. I'll offer my opinion on it. I personally think the discernment scarab is bait. I have ran at least 2,000 maps with dedicate harbinger and about 1/2 of those were with your scarab setup. So, my opinion is that, assuming you have unlimited time and you are willing to play that strat over and over, yes it will probably win out because eventually you will hit the "mirror" shard explosion. But I can confidently say 95% of players who run 1K maps with this strat is not going to drop mirror shards. Now, lets take the mirror shards off the table for focus on the next best: fracturing. Well, here is the thing, it seems to need around 75-100 maps to hit a fracturing shard explosion, which grants around 4 orbs on average, but if you run without the discernment scarab and replace it with another regular scarab, I seem too get around 4-8 (6 is average, since 3+3) shards. Based on my math, I obtain about around 4 fractured orbs in 60-70 maps, this beats on discernment scarab. Here is the "trap" with the discernment scarab, because all the shards are rolled as one, it is "far" less of a chance to get hit the truly rare. Instead a harby rolling 20 different times per harby (20 chances to hit a mirror or fractured shard vs 1) it is far more rare. Not, you might note the wording on discernment "chance of more rare" this is ambigious, we don't know if that means 25%, 100% or what not. Knowing GG, it is probably only 25%. So the question is, do you want to actually see a mirror shard drop? If so, don't run discernment, because if you do, you are not going to see it drop or you will need to commit to something like 10,000 maps using the same strat over and over. I am guess most do not have the mental fortitude for that. Remember, for every person who shows you the mirror shard explosion, the are hundreds more who don't. Don't let the lucky few convince you that this is a sure bet. After my own testing, I decided to drop that scarab. Sure, I won't even hit a mirror drop, but I have already obtained some mirror shards and I actually get more fractured shard this. Who knows, maybe even after 10,000 maps or 100,000 even, the scarab may prove to be a wash. Seriously. I would not be surprised to find out that the discernment scarab, on average produces the worst results on hundreds of thousands of maps. You might drop mirror shards 15x more frequent vs with the scarab. In the end, you re truly playing the powerball when running the discernment scarab. You might get lucky, but realistically you are not going to see those mirror shards if you use that scarab.

Question: Why do you recommend standing in the blue circle? Does it provide some sort of buff? As a ranged character its generally not always ideal to stand right in the middle of the mobs. Is it just because of the little totems they summon with the shield?

I have been playing with Harbingers on my Dominating Blow build (more Rares spawned means more Rares I can "convert" to my service), and had not been paying any attention to the blue circles and was worried that I was getting worse drops or something based on what was said in the video. Another thing to mention and why the scarab of regency( +50% to powerful harbinger boss chance) is so important for this strategy(besides the obvious) is that the scarab of discerment(rarer+ single type of currency shards) does not fully work on normal harbingers for whatever reason(you can even see it in this video around 12:55, it drops mostly horizon shards but you can see alteration shards also), while it works perfectly on the harbinger bosses.

With that strat you're spending a lot of time fighting bosses rather than harbys and are also missing out on harbys that are in your maps due to boss rushing. That is more a boss rushing strat with harbys supplementing it rather than a harby strat. It may or may not be better in terms of income, but you're lowering your chances of hitting a jackpot with the shards.

Discernment does NOT help you. Over 100000 harbinger kills 50k with 50k without its been tracked that your expected loot is ~30% lower using Discernment. As it will often give you one of the garbage shards as its entire drop. The only 2 useful conversions are frac and mirror with frac being extremely rare and mirror being less than 1 in 10,000 chance to even SPAWN but then Discernment rolls to see if it chooses mirror shard or (more likely) one of the other valid options. This makes it so if the mirror shard is part of a normal harb its a 1/5 to convert (tho even rarer for it to drop from non harb boss ) and 1/8 for harb boss on average So with Discernment potentially 1/80,000 harb will be mirror shards. . . Meaning you need to get 8 mirror shards total to equal that of not using any scarab at all in that slot. Use 2 harb 1 harb boss 1 dupe loot for best EV/map

@SteadyPlaying we logged rewards on our Excel sheet. The variety mod doesn't matter because of how the scarab works it rolls the rarity on the harb first (if harb boss) then applies the scarabs to it which rerolls it again but THEN picks one type of currency to make the entire drop become and as far as we can tell last it doubles it. As you well know each harb or harb boss drops multiple stacks of shards and of those stacks you'll be lucky if 1 (2 when doubled) is exalt or frac/2(4 doubled) are ancient or null. The rest will be garbage. Even if the reroll rng upgraded tier 4 shards to tier 3, i.e., you get chaos shards or something, it is far more likely to pick that for the ENTIRE stack vs picking the anull/exalt/frac etc. This turns consistent EV (expected value) into a gamble instead you can add +3 harbs which have 75% chance to become bosses and will yield double loot this means at a baseline you get +6 harbs of loot but in reality 2 become bosses on average so it's 18 harbs worth of loot (bosses drop ~4x shards) If we assume you only have device scarab and 1 from atlas that's 7 harbs 5 of which on average become bosses so 44 baseline harbs of loot that way vs. 62-68 of loot my way. Now, while that is about 50% more loot more importantly it is 50% more chances at mirror/frac shards without the drawback of entire harbs going poof without any loot worth picking up.

@SteadyPlaying we didn't include mirror shard drops because our sample wasn't nearly large enough for the shard drops to be statistically significant. Only currencies counted were frac/anull/ancient shard/orbs. Yes we count harb bosses as "4" due to fact they drop far more shards than non harb bosses however the math works out the same even on non bosses as while the total stack of shards to pick from goes way down you also lose the guarantees 3x reroll harb bosses give if that makes sense. I'm going to get sirgog to do a large scale harb test for a new video and I'll share here when it's all done if that's ok.

I tend to run harbs also, I tie them in with blueprints. I dont usually make any money running them. Money tends to come from other strats. I did notice when i run discernment I get like zero drops ( big explosions of junk lol). But if i take that out run double harb regency and warlords I start see more fracs again never seen a mirror. Most of the money I make comes from hesit (simplex, focused, helical) did p well this season. As for maps, i run strand straight line vs the map you outlined. I also like phantas since its similar just a line. So thoughts of taking out discern? Ill tyr to do 50 maps see what happens then another 50 with it.

Discernment would be a net 0 if it wasn't for the line 'harbingers in area drop rarer currency shards'. This modifier used to be on the harb sextant and is very powerful. Without discern you will make possibly more income in the short term but definitely less income in the long term.

Yup, I mean rarity though. So white T16 maps are the way. Keep in mind this does make you very reliant on shard drops so usually it's best to add other sources of income. Though the rares the harbys spawn tend to drop a bunch of stuff.

best are bosses, since they go really fast and can drop maps. expedition usually takes long, even if you use the big single bomb, which costs time. farming harbingers is all about doing it fast so you can farm as many as possible. if you take 10 minutes per map, you will have 6 maps per hour. if you take 5 minutes, you will do 12 maps. the 12 maps might be the difference between hitting the occasional loot explosion or having it more often.

If you bulk sell them you’ll get more I just finished farming 500 div in couple weeks doing a farm to get elder/shaper/conq/ t17 to sell. You could run jungle valley, nice layout and abom sells 6/ 5 div all day long. :)

Yup if you want to do the 100% harby rush strat it's white maps as in the rarity. So t16 white maps. It doesnt hurt to quality it as it will increase the loot the rares drop. But it has no affect on shards. Personally at the moment I do run the maps rare as it doesnt slow me down too much and it's easier to sustain maps/currency this way. If you rely 100% on harby shards you're gonna hit some droughts between fracturing drops that are going to hurt.

Why would we prefer Park over something like Strand or Tropical Island? Is it just the optimization of finding the harbingers quicker on Park? Yup, I used to love farming strand but its just way too long and spreads out the harbingers, tropical island has a similar issue. The reason park is good is its easy layout to find all the harbingers quickly and they are kind of clustered. Keep in mind if you are farming as a duo you will drop the same amount of shards as if you were solo.

I'm thinking of doing a 50 maps of each calculations, but I'm pretty sure that it's only taking me about 20 seconds more to add 3 more harbingers in place of the discernment scarab, and I'm making much more consistent currency per map. I'm not sure I like how lottery the discernment is, but I haven't had a single frac or mirror drop in well over 50 maps. I still made money, but Just swapping the discernment out netted me a fracturing orb across 8 maps.

Congrats, it will for sure give you more consistent currency over time to take it out. However the value of your shards over time will be a lot lower, the line on the scarab 'harbingers in area drop rarer currency shards' is huge. It increases the rates in which you farm ancient orbs fracturing shards and mirror shards by a bucketload.

Nah it's no buff, it's just a good mentality to get into when farming harbys as it kind of keeps you on track to drop more shards. It's sort of like how people say town is lava when they are trying to quickly level a new character. It does make it faster to farm harbys with builds that can't ignore the blue invuln bubbles though.

the harbinger scarabs that drop the same shard is bad in the short term but really good in the long term because overtime you will hit the jackpot but if youre looking at making currency in the short time youre better without it and having extra harbinger because that scarab is choosing a random shard from the dropped pile to be the ONE shard that will drop and if youre supposed to drop fractured shards or mirrors shards but it choose something else then rip you wont get it.

yes and you want to know why, because I ran this for 15 hours not getting a single fractured explosions, which means it didnt choose fracture shards. its impossible to not drop a single shard in 15 hours. then yesterday i went and farmed for about the same time without it and made like 4 full fracture orb dropping alot of shards.

Nah you're locked into using discernment because of the other line in it 'Harbingers in Area drop rarer currency shards'. This is huge. If this line was on another scarab I would most likely not use it though. Youre right in that it just frontloads your RNG rather than giving drops over time.

Not yet this league. Last league I got 7, the League before (ToTA) I got 4 mirror shards and one mirror shard converted to a mirror of kalandra. The highest amount of mirror shards I've gotten in a league was in ritual with 18.

Im outdated on ritual strategy but when I ran it the rewards were bad unless you were going in with blood filled vessels, dunno how thats going to work in with the scarabs we have today though.

Lightning arrow can farm harbi. You need spell suppression and ailment immunity though and even then they can be very deadly, best strat is to circle strafe around them while shooting

You stand off the screen and fire arrows at the harb until the loot drops. LA is great for harb especially with the extra enemies hit on the gem.

Do You have to stand in blues circles? I can nuke mobs easily, but standing in the middle is quite deadly for my build (exsang miner)

Not all the time, but harbingers often spawn totems with small blue bubbles around them which make monsters in them immune to damage coming from a source outside of the bubble.

1:49 not true at all they are effected by map quant and pack size. From my experince i get more frac shard when running 8 mod maps 11:00 dunes is faster i do 1 inn 1.5-3min warhoards is better but when running another 3 harbingers u get more out of regency

Unless things have changed this season, they are not affected by map quant and pack size. Discernment and regency are mandatory, warhoards is optional.

Your loot show case is laughable. You need minimum 200 maps to start showing the fracture shard drops ratio properly and 1000 maps for the mirror shards

Farmed harbingers 1 week - 0 fracturing orbs/shards. Farmed "Back to basics" - 2 fracturing shards ^^ Harbingers strat for me was - 3div/hr as per wealthyexile calculations... so fucked up :(
