Love all your videos Dave... I learn so much about jewel tools. Glad you did this one, could you do one about best polishing practices for different metals or did I miss that one?

@CelticDreams what a great detailed educational breakdown of how to plate things. Have you ever gold plated a double edge safety razor? If so do you have a video of doing it? If not would you try?

Just found the video and it's great to see what the Pen Plater can do. But one thing... you made it very important to always have clean surfaces and never touch anything with bare fingers... but in the end (around 13:06-13:08) you tip on the pen with your finger... was this a pen already contaminated or is it possible to clean the tip of the pen again?

Good point. It's fine if you've just washed your hands. But it's really more of a general point that dirty hands and hence dirty nibs, will create difficulties. Hope this makes sense. Thanks for watching. Dave

How much cost black rhodium plating ? I mean in your country...thanks
@CelticDreamsCoUk3 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried that, but you can get it (below). All the solutions are expensive as they contain precious metals. But a few drops is really all you need for small jobs like this. Dave pepetools.com/collections/plating-1/products/black-rhodium-pen-plating-1-4g-cohler-superblack

Hi Dave, do you know what I can use to bring a high luster to Delrin plastic? I have red rouge, brown rouge and a variety of buffing wheels, but am not sure what I can and can't use.

JUst a fine polish on a soft cotton mop. Not too fast to avoid overheating and melting. Dialux White, it claimed to be suitable for plastics. Dave . www.eternaltools.com/dialux-polishing-compound

Can I send you a rope chain and you can get all the imperfections out. It would be super helpful and can you polish it up because I do not have a polisher.

Yes, Happy to do that. Depending on how bad it is. Better to email me or use facebook... Dave Mail@celticdreams.co.uk facebook.com/Celticdreams.co.uk/

Hi great video so informative. I have a few gold plated diamond rings l. How do i replate ? I am presuming degreese first then the same technique as you done with the coin ? My silly brain was saying i would need to remove all diamonds then reolate the piece then re insert all the diamonds. Surely that cant be correct.
@CelticDreamsCoUk3 ай бұрын
Yes using a pen plater, you can touch up a ring. As you say, ensure it is perfectly clean first, ultrasonic, alcohol, and avoid greasy fingers. The plating will only apply to the metal, not the stones. No need to remove them. Dave

@CelticDreamsCoUk Fabulous thank you. I thought so. I thought I can not be expected to remove over 300 diamonds and remember where they all go just to re plate a piece. Fab thank you so much for clarifying . I wouod of thought the solution could possibly leave a cloudy appearance on the gems.

Hi, Dave I have wanted to ask this question for a while but nether known who to ask, although you should have popped into my mind. Anyway a friend of mine has 2 platinum rings that she says are rodium plated i wanted to know what is the best way to polish and clean them as a few people have said you have to use special chemicals to clean rhodium plated items is that true or is tripoli and rouge okay
@CelticDreamsCoUk4 жыл бұрын
White gold and Platinum are often Rhodium plated in order to make them brighter. So any heavy polishing will wear away the rhodium. A little soapy water and an old toothbrush will work wonders. But if you want to get the bright and sparkly again, then you need to take them to you local jeweller and get them re plated. Typically this should be done once a year with a ring that is worn constantly.

I have a vintage bulova it has scratches can I buff the whole watch scratches n things out n then replate it just that simple? Or should I find someone to restore it?
@CelticDreamsCoUk3 жыл бұрын
The scratches would need to be sanded and polished out, before the whole thing is cleaned and re plated. If its a valuable watch then its best left leaving this to a pro. Its likely the watch itself will need cleaning and oiling too. Personally I am a jeweller not a watchmaker, so I don't do watches. Bulova may be a more unusual brand, so perhaps search for Rolex repairs and see who you find locally.Thanks for watching. Dave
