Thanks for the video with John. I was wondering how Asian to American persimmon breeding worked. I agree 90 vs 60 chromosomes seems like a different species.

John is a very knowledgeable guy Blake, I know I've said that before but it's still true. My little persimmon hasn't sprouted yet mate, but it's cooler here than over where you're at. I've saved this to my interesting playlist for future reference. Have a great weekend all the best steve

I've stratified seeds harvested from wild persimmons here in middle TN. I'm hoping to graft out the best fruits onto the less desirable trees as they mature, and hopefully cross the best together. Thanks for the tips!

Hi John, what climate zone are you? I leave in 5b and I plan to graft a persimmon next spring with several varieties to improve chances of tacking and also pollination. I bought a Chocolate persimmon a couple of years ago but the graft died; hopefully the rootstock survived. I have now 3 branches of decent size, about half an inch each. Studying the info about grafting persimmon i found out that I have to wait until the sap pushes the leaves, or at least the buds on the rootstock previous to graft. Cleft and tongue would be the one you suggest? Thank you in advance.

I appreciate a little explanation. I’m confused about the purpose or benefit of grafting small tiny persimmon’s scions into another tiny rooted persimmon. I mean what kind of benefit do I get from a successful grafting?
@BlakesNaturelife
@BlakesNaturelife 2 жыл бұрын
These were the first ones flushing out growth. It’s a good example to give you an idea what time you should graft it. They will grow just takes a little bit longer than a bigger rootstock.

I can graft fresh scions from trees as well? They just need to hardened right? What time is the best to do grafting, spring? They must be kept in shade, and covered with some dark material? Minium temperatue they survive?
@BlakesNaturelife

What climate are you? Zone I’m in 8b some spots warmer to 9b. We typically collect bud wood when they go dormant. Put the dormant wood in the refrigerator. Graft the rootstock when they start pushing out. Usually around February to the end of March grafting is done. Just depends on your location.

Is there a best time of year to do the grafting? I am in California (zone 9) and new to persimmons/grafting.
@BlakesNaturelife
@BlakesNaturelife 3 жыл бұрын
I go by the root stock when it pushes out New leaves 🍃 that could change in the month where you live. Here is end of Feb and end of March and April. Collect your scion wood when it’s Dormant. By letting the root stock or tree push out New leaves you have a better chance of success.

How and when do you separate all those seedlings from the same pot? Repot or put into the ground? How old are those seedlings?
@BlakesNaturelife
@BlakesNaturelife 2 жыл бұрын
Usually when they go dormant. If you’re doing it when it’s growing season you could plant them up in a bigger container until they go dormant again. You can transplant them but may lose some. When you divide them up you could plant some in the ground they just seem to do better when they’re dormant. I have planted them when they we’re growing. I had better luck when It was cooler weather and they drop the leaves. If you put them in the ground this fall go ahead and have a cage around it. If you have deers around they will eat the leaves off. The seeds are probably-year-old. How many do you have in your Container?

"You'd have to be in denial not to see it." Yup. It's called Climate Change, and it's the greatest threat to our planet, at least for our generation. Great vid, as always. Really neat to see, and informative. I just wish I knew why you would graft plants together, ha ha. Does it help them grow? Or maybe it creates a new species? ~AJ Acey, The Friendly Hermit
@BlakesNaturelife
@BlakesNaturelife 4 жыл бұрын
The Friendly Hermit most definitely friend. Lots of change going on it can be seen. Trees are really needed more the better. To graft helps keep same varieties that might taste really good like a tasty fruit or a big fruit than small ones from seed grown tree. It to is less wait time for it making fruits. When plants grown from seed you don’t know sometime what you are going get. Some trees are true to mother plant. It doesn’t make new plants. It can make new varieties that taste good grown from seed an you can name it 👍 Some root stocks helps related species grow in certain areas they can’t grow at. Like clay soil or sandy soils and wet soil. Some are resistant to disease and root rot. Glad you enjoyed video man!
