One that I use a ton as pathy when moving somewhere with lots of obstacles in the way, like rocks or small buildings, is a max range grapple on the ground then jumping and tapping backwards right when the grapple connects. It’ll shoot you forwards the same as a normal grapple where you jump, but it also launches you way up vertically so you can clear all the stuff on the ground, and quickly get to high places without having to grapple the high place itself. Also useful in combat as it’s similar to an octane jump pad and difficult to track. A big thing I’ve found playing Pathy recently is to make sure you cancel your grapple by reactivating the tactical, or breaking it by looking away, as soon as you don’t need it. The cool down is based on how far you go with the grapple active, so cancelling it early means a shorter cool down. If you don’t cancel it and instead ride the whole thing out you’ll end up with an awful lot of 30 second grapple cool downs!

The more time spent looking away from your grapple point without looking beyond the 90* point the further and faster you can go. This is probably the only thing you didn't explicitly mention. This is also something that take a LOT of practice to get consistent. Basically the key is to do it from the maximum distance possible from the grapple point, with the angle being 35*-45* up, and always counter strafe the opposite direction that you are going to swing for extra momentum buildup.

You can do an A/D tap-strafe (instead of W it's your strafe keys)+bhop combo on landing after a grapple to start b-hopping in a tight circle. Provided there's no landing stun/flat ground for best results. It's purely for style/flexing and you're gonna need to change up binds but it's quite cool and you can do it to bhop circles around someone while shooting them. Octane can do it too while stimmed.

I LOVE these School of the Otter tuts, but I wanna humbly submit a suggestion of adding the spacebar highlight in the keys you have on the side. I recognize you mapped your jump to down on scrollwheel, but a lot of what you’ve said has much to do with the timing and a visual rep will def help. Either way, THANK YOU! These are priceless tuts, and I hope this stuff is cemented in the community up there with Mokey’s stuff.

you can super grapple on flat ground, same as with a ledge but youre running forward, the grapple indicator just outside blue range and you jump when it connects.
@Nightstick243 жыл бұрын
That also works with any other grapple! As long as it’s yellow when you fire it and you move just into range it does the same broken animation and launches you like crazy.

Small tip. If you aim your grapple slightly above your point then walk into it, it gives your grapple jump more verticality. This wont add any distance but it does allow you to reach higher points.

Always good to watch many tutorials on these things this one is pretty comprehensive but you never know if there’s something your missing like I had no clue you could put a backwards movement to get a greater arc and was wondering how many would do it lol
@Nightstick243 жыл бұрын
If you add that backwards movement to a max range grapple on the ground, with the jump just as the grapple connects like always, you can do a super high leap that looks cool.

My personal favourite grapple is the Ceiling fan. Works particularly well with a gold mag, after your first clip is emptied, holster and grapple a central point of the ceiling in doors and keep turning to face it causing you to spin in a circle wildly. Noone ever expects this and usually blows their entire clip missing most of their shots and your gold mag has you ready to go again.

Friendly tip: IF you have played TF2 OR TF|2 then you already know the basics of strafing in this game. Since it's built of a version of Source trolldiers should be able to quickly adjust to the grapple movement with some practice. Meanwhile Pilots will have to get used to how limited this grapple is in comparison to the OG.
