Does it matter what position you put the blade connectors back on the gear wheel or will they adjust manually once you start operating the machine?

No it doesnt matter where the gears are when you put the conrods back on, there is no timing you need to worry about etc

thanks for the video - I've just bought one of these - is there a formula for number of hours usage per grease top up? I will just be using mine at home a few times a year for an hour or two each time so I'm hoping it's something I only have to do every year or two? Also do you recommend lubricating the blades and if so, what do you use?

Possibly worth checking grease every year just to be sure, quick easy job anyway. Any kind of maintenance spray will be fine on the blades, wd40 etc. Also special hedge trimmer sprays if you want to go down that route. Cheers

My manual for the DUH601 which has a similar looking gearbox says every 100 hours, and 5g of grease. I don't do many hours so every year or so sounds fine for me.

@@angusajm5545 I would change that to every 50hrs and more grease, seeing how their bearings are prone to failure 😅

I bought grease nipples to replace the hex key screw. Love the unit but annoyingly the head keeps slipping out of its locked position now. Have tried tightening the Allen key through the rotating section but it's done nothing to solve it

Yeh its a manufacturing weak point the articulating head, mine did the same, luckily still under warranty so got it sorted, well just about anyway. You have to tighten the head up slightly when new to stop the pin wearing out so much, Bloody annoying though when it f ups.

@@RJLmachinery yeah mines under warranty still but last time I had to send it in 3 times and it kept coming back with the same problem. Eventually they sent me out a new unit but that's just started doing it. I don't think they know a fix for it at Makita service department

Yeh i had to send mine back twice, i swear the technician only tightened the head bolt first time round 😂. Its still not 100% but i keep it tight now so doesnt move too much, I bought another 1 as well , so got a spare now. 👍

​@@RJLmachinery Thanks for this great video. I'm curious what the problem is with it slipping out of locked position. It hasn't happened to me yet, but if you could make a video about what happens and what to tighten to lessen the chances of it happening would be really cool!

Good job. That machine looks a lot sturdier than the stihl hla65/66. I think the blade speed is a bit quicker too.

Cheers mate, Not alot between the 2 i dont think, they both have their issues. The makita max speed is 4400 spm which is very nice, stihls is only 3000 i think which is abit disappointing. 👍

No not really, this lightweight battery one is fairly balanced

Great video - APPRECIATED - I love Makita everything BUT this is a complete FAIL for not engineering this better - should be ZERK fitting with maybe a bleeder etc to release pressure so that end user simply lubes up the gear box taking a few seconds and DONE - but NO - MAKITA - THIS IS A FAIL - thanks again RJL !

Cheers, They have to be careful with zerk fittings and placements as they can easily be smashed off. Agreed tho it does need to be better than it is currently 👍
