I use Lucas power steering fix (an additive for your power steering and rack and pinion) in my gear heads on my weedeaters. It may sound weird but it’s a super thick and tacky oil that I’ve noticed makes the head run cooler than using grease. Not sure if it’s the best for it but it runs cooler and (in my experience) seems to allow the engine to rev higher because it’s not as much of a load on the motor as it’s a thinner lubricant. That’s just my preference. I had to use it one time when the bolt fell out and the grease flowed out and I needed something to lube it. I liked it and used it ever since. I’m just curious as to what anyone thinks of using an oil rather than a grease.

Luckily I read the comments. The gear head on my new SRM-225 gets wicked hot. Hard to twist line for the speed head.

Hey Danny how do you like the Echo trimmers? I just bought an SRM 2620T and loving it so far. Switched from Stihl to Echo... a big jump for me but the 2620T has been amazing!

Thanks for the video. Guess i should take care of it this year since i have skipped the last 15 years. That little echo grease gun is crazy expensive, glad to see you just put the tube up to it. Question- any negative impact to these tools if too much grease is added?

3/4 of grease should be in gearbox, more than that will blow the gearbox seals, and the grease will start dripping out of the gearbox through the broken seals. How do you know you reach the 3/4 limit? I don’t know.

For years I have thrown out this plug and replaced it with a standard grease fitting (zerk). Works great. Why don't factories do this?

They want you to buy their specific grease tubes. money grab.

@@D-Mayor should be. Just use a high temp grease like Lucas red n tacky or something. If something happens it won’t be under warranty though because you didn’t use their grease. Just do it at your own risk. I haven’t had any issues yet

Except most manufacturers have deleted this access port lately. Stihl, Echo, and possibly Husqvarna(?).

My brand new Honda Weedwhacker, brush, cutter, top-of-the-line, remote control. Everything doesn’t say a word about lubricating this gearbox not a word doesn’t recommend a fluid to go in. It doesn’t tell you that you should’ve even look in it. That’s a service to its customers.😔

Stihl and Echo quit providing a port for greasing the gearbox. It’s only spinning at 10K rpm - they let us know they really don’t care! Of course I can remove the gear box and get a nipple off a caulk tube and drill a hole in the end and attach it to the appropriate grease tube and squeeze a bit in every year. No thanks to the manufacturers.

I’m not sure about other brands. This Echo specifically says in the manual it should be done. Most don’t read their manuals though. I will say it will not hurt to do it regardless of the machine
