I always though cats hated water so I have never bathed any of them. My current cat who we rescued from the cats protection shelter last November is a Ragdoll x Persian and at almost 6kg is quite a chonk. She does get greasy patches on her back... the rear quarter of her body near to her tail. I do sometimes cut any hair matts with scissors, or I tease them out with my fingers but I'm definitely going to be trying corn starch to dry out the grease before I try again😊

OMG...That has GOT to be the most mellow cat EVER!!! My white Persian is normally pretty mellow, but my friend who is a professional groomer (and comes to my house to groom each month) groomed my boy the day before yesterday, and we didn’t do ANYTHING as radical as a lion cut! Just brushing out knots from the undercoat (and occasionally shaving them because they were too tight and too close to the skin to risk snipping them out with scissors) you would have thought we were MURDERING him! He was trying to barrel roll he was hissing and growling and he even tried to bite me while holding him while my friend groomed. Trimming the nails, I love how you keep saying, “See? Easy.”😹😹😹 Maybe for YOU! LOL! I need you at MY house!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH for the important warning about people making SURE they use a shampoo specifically for cats! When I was younger and an inexperienced 1st time cat owner, I used a shampoo to get rid of fleas that was meant for dogs only that contained pyrethrines (spelling). The poison was absorbed thru my cat’s thin skin and if my vet and I hadn’t figured out the shampoo and its ingredients when we did, he wouldn’t have made it even another few hours. I’m happy to say that by baby survived, but that was one hell of a whopper vet bill (there was kidney and liver damage that had to be addressed) and I had the WORST case of mama guilt and just plain feeling awful because of my ignorance! I’ve never forgotten how sick I felt over what happened because I didn’t know that a cat’s skin is so much thinner than a dog’s and very quickly can absorb ingredients that are toxic to them.So, thank you so much again for telling everyone about that - it can’t be stressed enough!!!

WE created these strange breeds. I found a cat, nearly dead, by the side of the road and paid all the vet bills and kept him. He is mostly Himalayan. They will not survive with matted coats. They throw up hair balls all the time, which is likely dangerous. I am far from being a fan of designer pets, but who will be responsible for people's stupidity?

aww I love that you got three Persians because of Gatsby. I got my first Persian a week ago. She is still settling in so she is a little skittish but she loves when I comb her, even if the comb catches. She lets me bathe her no problem. I'm so glad to find this video because I couldn't find a groomer that would touch her with a ten foot pole so I'll have to do it myself.

I really appreciate this video. 4 years ago, I took my cat to a groomer. And it did not go well. He came back terrified and it took a long time to get him to be around people again. From then on I have been doing very simple low level grooming. My cat has long hair like a Persian. Now that he is a senior kitty. I have to increase the level of my grooming. In my area there are not a lot pet groomers that will groom a cat. So I am really glad you posted this video. I have learned so much. Thank you.

Persian cats in general are very very mellow. I have a Persian and I always get compliments of her relaxed nature. Keep in mind with their mellowness, Persian cats are not the most affectionate or as a playful as other breeds. Still Love em❤️

10 blade is extremely safe unlike other lengths. The teeth on the blade are closer together so it's much less of a risk to use. Cats skin doesn't just nick, it tears and gets bigger as a cat moves. He's smart to shave with that blade!!! Safety first.....

BEAUTIFUL! I used to groom a cat that came from 50 miles away because I never believed in using anesthesia! It took 2 hours but he learned after the second time that he could trust me and looked somewhat forward to getting clipped! I'm not sure why some Cats tend to Matt terribly!! One of my female cats was spayed at age 5 and never had fur that matted but after surgery she will matt up like a piece of felt now! Seems like it's because of lack of hormones (?) You did an excellent job grooming this cat, sir! Love it!

My 21 year old longhair is having problems with cleanliness and matting (related to health issues), and it’s always difficult to take her to the vet for a shave due to increased stress, availability of a groomer who can do cats, and age associated risks. I really needed to know how to do her hind and tail but most internet searches just say “avoid the tail”. She will appreciate the easily cleaned tail more than the daily butt baths!

I find it funny that groomers like to use Persians as examples in cat grooming 😆 and even more so, that as groomers - we choose to own them. As a groomer myself, I’ve only ever done dogs, I own a Persian that has just turned one and I’ll be giving him his first haircut tomorrow. From experience shaving and cleaning up his feet, he’ll do just fine with the clipper but I’m watching some videos to be extra sure that I manoeuvre him and his skin properly - I’ve also bathed and blow dried him EVERY two weeks for his whole life so he’s very patient 😊

Recently adopted a senior tortoise shell (almost grey) persian (12yo) and I cannot wait to get her to the groomer... she seemed to have developed mats while staying at the adoption centre and she has difficulties cleaning, manoeuvring with them that it disrupts her way of life. of course I try to brush them out to the best of my ability so they're a bit more flattened, but some are so embedded near her skin that it feels like only a groomer can successfully get them out... You do a great job, man, love this channel!

It's ALL in the vibe/confident, gentle handling. He knows what he's doing so the cat feels that, in the way he knows how to work with the cat's skin. If a cat doesn't feel that understanding of his body he won't let you do much. & calm patience.
