@@loisayitevie2743 a very poor indicator. There is a huge genetic factor to consider and the advancement of the lifter. I rarely get sore and when I do get sore I know I trained too much! You have to learn to understand your own body rather than simply equating being sore to a good lifting session!
@arekdbz37 жыл бұрын
Pointing toes out on squats, makes it much harder to create external rotation, which lack of leads to injuries. So even though it helps with better activation of glutes, I would not risk an injury. Same goes for bench press and other compund movements.
@nightwatchman79857 жыл бұрын
arekdbz3 Nah, not for everybody; in fact, that may only be true for a minority of people. Some people can point their toes straight forward, externally rotate their hips, and squat to depth just fine, but many others do not have that same degree of internal hip rotation ability. If I try to squat with my toes facing straight forward, I feel uncomfortable, awkward, and weak as I descend, and it's impossible to push my knees outward far enough. However, if I point my toes outward, I get a good amount of external hip rotation, my knees track outward in line with my toes, and the whole movement becomes better for me by every perceived metric. As far as I know, Jeff's advice to point your toes out is solid and safe.
@arekdbz37 жыл бұрын
Because you don't create external rotation, you can't push your knees out. The rotation is being achieved by applying rotation to your feet, which means you are trying to rip apart the floor basicly. Feet don't move, but the force is being applied as you would want to. This locks joint capsule and pushes your knees outward as you descend. You don't think about pushing your knees, it happens for you as you apply the force to your feet.
@qazwax5017 жыл бұрын
arekdbz3 for me, squatting toes forward hurts my knees, I think because I lack hip internal rotation. So toes out feels much better for me.
@arekdbz37 жыл бұрын
According to dr Kelly Starret you can go as far as 12 degree out, but the more parrarell the better. And working around lack of mobility doing things that are dangerous is not a good idea :P WOrk on your mobility xD
@qazwax5017 жыл бұрын
arekdbz3 ya it's probly not the best idea to try and work around your mobility, but I think their are certain structural differences that vary from person to person...so saying, "toes forward is always better", I think is speaking to generally...just like some ppl can squat with knees neutral with 0 butt wink, while others have to squat knees out...which, as I understand, is due to structural differences in the hip and femer bones
@dangnguyenkhoadn007 жыл бұрын
i want to add that wide stance box squat stopping at parallel height is the most optimal way to squat for glute gains
@JeffNippard7 жыл бұрын
interesting. any research to support this or just personal experience?
@dangnguyenkhoadn007 жыл бұрын
Jeff Nippard its basically mimicking a movement of a hip thrust. Feet out wide allows more glute engagement and stopping at parallel like you said. I still think hip thrust is the best but wide stance box squat is definitely second on the list. This may be anecdotal but Westside Barbell people have used box squats a lot to build their posterior chain for deadlifts

I’ve got a bit of constructive criticism for you. Your videos would be improved by adding transitions into your script. Watch 5:20-5:40. Around 5:30, you switch topic from lunges to back extensions, with almost no indication other than changing the clip. You finished talking about lunges and then said “although many think of this as a lower back exercise, and it can be...” and at first I thought “who thinks lunges are a lower back exercise?” I thought you were still talking about lunges. So here’s what I’ll say. In a few of your videos I’ve noticed a lack of verbal transitions in the writing of your scripts, and it can be a little jarring. Adding some transitions to guide the viewer would help your videos flow better and improve the quality of your videos. That’s just my 2 cents. You can take it or leave it. I’m probably overanalyzing it because I just finished a technical writing course.

i dont think youre over analyzing. with quality content comes more likes and views

Constructive criticism at its finest . Those transitions would def improve the flow of video, it might be like 30 second add-on to the vid but would def improve it. i think i would tell him to mention it to the editor. hey if its more watch time to his videos, it adds more watch time to his overall channel and KZbin loves that. so its a win-win from my perspective and the fact that you can point it out is definitely helpful

It pains me this only has 80k subs Jeff, ur Info is quality. Yet some blonde chick talking about mascara or some shit with her jabs pined to her Chin and doing half squats with 40kgs gets 200k subs, someday the Internets will recognise Dude. Someday. :)

I enjoyed the science, but what about deadlifts for glutes??
@JeffNippard7 жыл бұрын
Deadlifts are great for the glutes. We didn't do them on this day and with all the hip extension work we already did, I don't think they'd fit in all that well on a day like this.
