My Satsuma mandarin was not growing too well and needed a trellis because of its weeping habit. I realized it needed to be up potted as the pot fell over with the trellis. When i took it out of the pot, I noticed it wasn't getting enough water-- only the top half was moist , bottom half was dry. I would never have known if I didn't take it out of the pot. Thank you, Diana, I really appreciate all your videos, even the old ones!

I usually use EB Stone citrus soil for all my fruit trees in containers. If you dont have access to it try kelog soil for potting. Guava don't mind the extra moisture. Make sure to add woodchips.

Hi Diana! Thanks, this was helpful! What if you have a 1-year old volunteer guava that's grown too close to a 10 year-old peach tree? What's the safest way to transfer the guava to a pot or container without killing it? I'd appreciate your community's input and especially yours! Muchas gracias!
@GardenloveHomestead4 жыл бұрын
The best time to transplant would be spring when its not to hot depending on how big the little guava is, I would go a foot out grom the trunk and start digging it out. Try to keep as much roots as possible. Have a pot ready with good soil, compost, and or warm castings and transplant it. Before i forget the day before give it a really good deep water. You want to make sure the tree will well hydrate. After you transplant it water it good again. And water lights every day for a week after that as need it. Lastly, keep in a bright shaded area. Keep it there for a while maybe a month or two. Thank you shoul be able to move it when you want it. I hope that made scene 😅
@lcsoliman4 жыл бұрын
@@GardenloveHomestead Copy all that! Muchas gracias! You solved my dilemma! I really want and hope to keep the guava alive. I believe plant volunteers are heaven sent, so the least I could do is provide them the safe space and home each plant deserves. Much appreciated! Please stay safe and keep growing and spreading love from your garden.

Hi, I just have a question , I just bought a srawberry guava tree at the nursery a week ago and I notice most of the leaves are falling , so I repot on a bigger pot, do you think it will live or can I transplant to the ground? And the have a lot of fruits too. Where did you buy your pot? Pls. advise. Thanks.
@paididoy3 жыл бұрын
The pot is over filled with soil. You should have left 2 to 3 inches from the top so that water can be contain during watering.
@GardenloveHomestead3 жыл бұрын
The soil usually gets congress after a few days. It will drop at least an inch And it did. Specially this tree already had large roots. But it's definitely a good idea to leave some room for watering 🙂

Great Video! Really detailed for the newbie like me! I received my guava plant today! It's about 5" tall. Can you tell me what size pot would be best to start off? Also what fertilizer do you use monthly? I live in SoCal too.
@GardenloveHomestead5 жыл бұрын
Wow, congrats! I would go two size bigger in pit if you have a 5gallon then get a 10 or 15 gallon pot. If the roots are well developed you can go 20. They do grow fast. This tree was in a 5 gallon a year before this video. As you know this guava already produced food 🤗. I have a video tasting the fruit. The fertilizing I use is EB stone fertilizer and or IV organic fertilizer. I also alternate by adding compost, fish fertilizer and worm casting. Each month I change it up.

I might have missed it, but how often do you water the guava tree?
@GardenloveHomestead4 жыл бұрын
It depends on 2 things 1. weather 2. In the growing and or in a container. If its hot often twice a week or so if in a container every other day. During cool days once a week. In containers twice a week. Guavas love having their fert moist and they drink a lot of water. Also if its in the ground keep in mind what kind of soil you have. Does it hold alot of water or its sandy and it drys out fast 🤷♀️ I hope that was helpful 🙂

I purchased this tree from Lowe's it didn't say if it was grafted and from inspecting it, it doesn't look like it was grafted. I think it was from a cutting or it could be from a seed. Thanks for the tip about direct sun in Southern California. My tropical pink guava has been slow to grow in my south facing lawn. It's been in the ground for two years now. Maybe If it had more shade it'll grow faster? There are trees and shrubs next to it that I can grow out more to provide shade if it needs it. Thanks for the making these videos!
