You are lucky that you have this kind of vegetables in your garden! This is good for those who have small spaces in their backyard. Growing them in verticle upright manner was really a brilliant idea. Job well done!

Thank you for sharing! I realized this was uploaded 6 years ago but it's definitely still helping people today. I am growing my first summer squash ever and decided vertical was the best way. I didn't realize that pollination would be an issue! Thanks for the advice.

I just use store-bought tomato cages for vertical planting due to its ease as I am not handy to build a wire cage but they are probably not as sturdy as yours. I really like the idea of lifting the growth off the ground to minimize fungus and pests problems. You gave a lot of great tips. Thank you.

I love the idea of the use of your wire fencing. I am going to do that. It should also make it easier to look for squash eggs, larva and the adult bugs. FYI. The female part of the plant that you put the pollen on is the stigma which sits on top of the rounded pistil from which the fruit develops. I teach my student to use the "sticky stigma to help remember and the stamen is part of the male that has the pollen on top. Memory tool for that is stamen has “men” in it.

This is how I do my squash, cucumbers and zuchini's as well....Although every year I plant in a different spot and they do great. Then....the leaves start to turn yellow and the fruit starts to turn brown! This year it started soing it again but no fruit yet. So I did a little reading. I added Nitrogen to the soil and see if I can catch it before it get's too bad. Yours are beautiful so green! Thank you the video was helpful with the male and female I never knew how to tell! I hand pollinate if I plant things at work (in a metro area and there are few bees.) Bees do their job pollinating where I live near a valley. It is not time consuming at all. One tip of the brush on the pollen and one touch to the female plant will do the job. It takes only about 5 minutes. I hand pollinate Japanese sweet kabocha pumpkins too. Easy, very easy. Sometimes, all you have to do is shake the brush on the female flower tip. I love your upright garden. Smart and very productive! Thanks for this video. Very smartly situated garden!

Best video yet I've seen explaining growing squash upright. How many squash plants do you have planted per round trellis? Would I do this differently if I am growing summer squash in the southeast United States? You keep saying that you have limited space, but your videos seem to show a lot of unused space? Again, great post. You should post more.

Yes, you can give it a try, if you have lots of bees then they may not need any extra help. I've found that I get more squash by hand pollinating.

A roll contains around 100 to150 lineal feet which would supply the whole neighborhood :) Try to find a place that sells it by the lineal foot. I lucked out and bought 50 feet at a garage sale for $15. There is all kinds of fencing out there that will work - shop around for the best deal and try to buy only what you need.

GREAT VERTICAL GARDEN, WHAT TYPE OF PEST CONTROL SPRAYS DO YOU USE FOR YOUR VEGETABLES? I AM PLANNING ON GROWING SOME OF THESE CROPS IN MY EARTHBOXES IN A FEW MORE WEEKS WHEN WINTER HAS PASSED AND AM TRYING TO KEEP EVERYTHING FOR THE MOST PART ORGANIC, HOWEVER THIS MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE DUE TO MY ZONE 6 AND THE HUMID HOT SUMMERS WE GET WITH LOTS OF DIFFERENT TYPES OF INSECTS.
