I live in an apartment so him giving me info about that was cool I also didn't know you could bunch together and have success cause I really don't wanna by a 10 dollar pot and be breaking even by the time I buy some soil.

How's your Thai Basil doing? I'm going to plant 3 today and like you I'm new to gardening. Did you try to overwinter or start plants every year? I saw another video that said after removing the leaves from any organic store bought thai basil,, stick the stems in water until they get roots for a couple weeks then just poke it in the ground. Enjoy your bounty of goodness.

@@adriankap2978 Mine has survived two winters and is still vibrant and flowers every now and then. And yes, what you heard from the video is true; that is how people propagate, and I do that too. So you pick a robust stem and stick it in water until it grows some roots. And then, you can choose to go kratky or plant it in the soil. Basil is easy to look after. Good luck with your basil plant.

Thank you so much for all this wonderful information! I grew basil years ago while living in GA and didn't remember what type of pot I put them in. I'm now living in the mountains of Colorado and my childhood friend (we grew up in Michigan😊) sent me some of her harvested sweet basil seeds! So far they are looking great in a seed starting tray. Can't wait to see what they do as they grow bigger. Thanks again!!

I love growing basil! You're right, basil is so chill. I live in a tropical country and I water my basil a little bit twice a day. Recently, I had to spend a couple of days away from home and I missed watering it, and yeah, it looked so sad and limp. But several hours after watering, the leaves were up and lively again. Thank you for your videos! Ü

i started growing my basil last winter, indoors, from seed, and they were doing really well until i came back from the college dorm and i didnt water for a few days, and ive managed to get them to cling onto life, but only really enough to get clippings. theyre very small and wilted, with entirely brown roots. the first time i tried clippings, they died immediately, but they seem to be holding on for round two!

Questions: I'm new to gardening, and we live in an apartment.... once my basil starts growing and I prune the tips, how do I know when to stop pruning so that it doesn't continue growing? Will there be a limit to the growth? And If I needed a bunch, do I take the leafs off and then cut off the stem that I picked them off from? Thanks!
@merlynnthegreat
@merlynnthegreat 7 жыл бұрын
Shara Parker basil is very forgiving. I gave mine a trim down to the first set of leaves and it grew 4 inches taller. You can pick leaves or trim each stalk for what you need, but if you use it a lot you don't want to overwhelm the plant. basically as long as each stem has 4-6 leaves you'll be fine.

I'm growing two basil plants in pots on my patio. (one i started from seed and is doing amazing, and one was a plant i got from my grocery store that was super sad looking when i bought it. But i was cooking and needed basil and the plant was only 2.99 so i bought it. Now it if full and lush and a very happy plant.) And I have one more basil plant growing, its growing a little slower but, still doing good. Started from a seen using my aquaponics system. Basil was harder to grow in the system, but our parsley and oregano and mint is doing great. Thyme is struggling slightly but hanging on. We also have a tomato plant in our system that is finally producing fruit. Super exited for that. And our lettuce and cilantro are doing good too. Had a jalepeno plant that produced one fruit. stopped growing, so we transplanted it to a raised bed outside and it has taken off. I had no interest in gardening until i started watching your videos. Now I don't think I will ever not grow my own produce.

I grow basil strictly for the honeybees and all the native pollinators. The 2 best varieties I found are African Blue basil and Wild Magic basil. They are both sterile cultivars. I have grown basil before and it has grown beautifully. This year I planted one plant and I believe that it got too much rain. Some of the leaves started turning brown. I took off the damaged leaves and brought it into the house and under a grow light. Today I noticed that some of the new leaves were turning brown. I took them off and put the plant outside again in the sun. Now the leaves have started wilting yet there soil is moist. What do you think is wrong.

Just starting my indoor grow areas now. Growing basil from seed and they are still small. I have a 2' X 4' tray that I set my pots in. When the tray gets very dry, I add 1/4" of water. Makes it similar to a sub irrigated planter and I have to water less often. WRT watering, how often one has to water depends on the relative humidity of the air.

I grew basil in 4 1/4" square pots; just one plant per pot, since that was what I had on hand. I sowed them in mid-May, here in zone 6b, from a 25 cent pack of seeds I bought on impulse at the dollar store. I ended up with about 25 plants. Watering is definitely critical - since mine were in smaller pots than yours, I had to water every day when it was hot. I got a pretty good crop off them before they started flowering - I hope to collect seed for next year, if I can. Luke, do you succession plant basil? I didn't think about starting more later in the season this year, but I could next year.
